The Groningen Protocol was developed on the assumption, or the lie, that many children with spina bifida suffered from excrutiating and untreatable pain. They certainly might without treatment, but treatment is straight-forward and effective.

Unfortunately, there are some atrocious conditions that can cause excrutiating pain as well as disability and early death, i.e., junctional epidermolysis bullosa. That doesn't mean killing is the answer.

I have a grandson and a granddaughter full of human dignity — and children with Down Syndrome.

God gives every child human dignity.
