Chris Rock tells white people to own the actions of their ancestors

Chris Rock explained in a lengthy interview Sunday that he believes part of healing racial relations in America is by white people “owning” the actions of their ancestors.

The black comedian told New York magazine’s Frank Rich that racial progress in America is “nonsense” and that the only thing that’s changed is white people aren’t as crazy as they used to be. “When we talk about race relations in America or racial progress, it’s all nonsense,” Mr. Rock said. “There are no race relations. White people were crazy. Now they’re not as crazy. To say that black people have made progress would be to say they deserve what happened to them before.”

Mr. Rich asked the comedian if white people are “adjusting to a new reality?”

“Owning their actions. Not even their actions. The actions of your dad,” Mr. Rock said. “Yeah, it’s unfair that you can get judged by something you didn’t do, but it’s also unfair that you can inherit money that you didn’t work for.”

When asked for his thoughts on President Obama, Mr. Rock said, “Everybody wanted Michael Jordan, right? We got Shaq.”

A Jewish friend of mine said he was still waiting for reparations from the Egyptians for holding his ancestors in bondage for 400 years. It won’t happen, and Chris won’t get his reparations either. As my friend said, everybody’s ancestors got repressed at one time or other throughout history. You can’t dwell on it, you have to move on.

The idea of generational guilt or responsibility is nonsense. No one can account for the actions of their ancestors. Some of my ancestors owned slaves [am I the only one on FreeRepublic to admit it?]. Sorry folks, that was a different era and different values. It was what it was. FYI, none of those ill-gotten gains were passed down to me - EVERYTHING the family had in Louisiana was lost in the Civil War, and the survivors resettled in Texas. Interestingly, half of the former slaves relocated to Texas with them!

Fair enough? As long as Chris Rock acknowledges his lazy, drunken, felonious, welfare collecting, no job ancestors who have continued to bring this country down. Of course this does not include those who have made productive citizens and made this country the best in the world for the black population.

Dear Chris Rock:

I am more than happy to own the actions of my ancestors. On both sides of the family they were legal immigrants coming to this country in the early 1900's to escape the hell holes of their native countries. They were lowest on the immigrant totem pole, Irish and Polish.

They made a living in the bowels of New York City and eventually provided their families with the American dream.

I am proud of my ancestory.

I grew up outside East St. Louis and worked at a store in the Collinsville Avenue business district in the mid-1970's. The city was black majority then and most of our customers were black, but whites still lived in the city and shopped there. I drove to work every day without any real concern for my safety. I walked by myself several blocks away to go to a great cafeteria for lunch. I used to talk to the Black Muslim guys on the sidewalks who were selling frozen fish and handing out the "Muhammed Speaks" newspaper.

Here is a recent photo of the Murphy Building, where I once worked. Downtown East St. Louis is now, if I recall correctly, the single most dangerous neighborhood in the country.

Own that, Chris Rock.

Mine left Ireland ahead of the famine. My family was harassed by the KKK as late as 1942 (no blacks in southern Indiana so they picked on the Catholics). My GG Grandfather was a POW in a Confederate prison for six months. I’m not too interested in what a millionaire comedian has to say about race relations.

I don’t guess that blacks killing other blacks is crazy. At least white people have put together a high civilization that allows black people to make absurd statements about white people owning what their ancestors did, while enjoying the advantages of living in the our world, instead of the world Mr. Rock’s ancestors made. Not many blacks in America would be interested in returning to their old world, lands without public housing, EBT cards, Medicaid, and Affirmative Action. At least blacks living here, who are able to make the effort, have full access to white privilege.

So, let’s say all white people own up to what our ancestors did, or take responsibility for their actions, whatever that means. What good is it going to do for blacks living in America. Will that make them quit whining; get good educations, and drop the gangsta’, militant crap? Will it do anything to improve the lot of blacks in America? If so, here it is: Some of my ancestors owned black slaves. Some didn’t. Some fought for the South, and some for the North. I didn’t get anything from any of them but the genes they passed along, and the citizenship in this country. Does black America feel better now?
