Spontaneous protest erupts after man beaten to death by group of juveniles

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The violent death of a 32-year-old man beaten to death with a hammer by a group of teens sparked a spontaneous protest where demonstrators blocked traffic at Gravois and Itaska Sunday night in south St. Louis.

Zemir Begic, 32, was found unconscious with apparent injuries to his head, abdomen, face and mouth in the 4200 block of Itaska at 1:15 a.m. Police say Begic was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

"I want everybody to know I take your safety and everyone in the community's safety very seriously," said St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson. "I heard your message loud and clear. You want to make sure you are safe. I want to make sure you are safe and every neighborhood in our city."

Dotson also said the strain Ferguson has put on his department is great as officers have been working 12 hour shifts and no days off, but he assured the crowd the police will be here to protect them.

According to police, Begic was in his vehicle when “several juveniles” approached his car and began damaging it. When Begic exited his vehicle the teenagers yelled and struck him with hammers.

Following the assault, the teenagers fled the scene on foot. A 15 and 16-year-old were located a short time later and placed in the custody of juvenile authorities. Police are still searching for a third suspect.

The investigation is ongoing.

The names of the suspects have not been released, but two are in custody. Police say the suspects in custody are black males ages 15 and 16. Police are still searching for two others, a 16-year-old black male and a 15-year-old Hispanic.

Furthermore, if you narrow the statistics shown above on violent assault (GENERAL VIOLENT ASSAULT) to a specific type of violent assault (IN THE CASE BELOW, VIOLENT AGGRAVATED ASSAULT) , the statistics that Black-on-White versus White-on-Black VIOLENT ASSAULT crime take on an entirely different magnitude:

When one looks at these statistics, one can only reach the same conclusion that Bill Whittle did in his video:

You won’t see a story on Michael Brown without “unarmed black teenager” printed before his name. Five times in the story and it’s “unarmed black teenager.” I think they put it on his tombstone.

Black perp? It’s racist to mention the perp’s race. Local news where I am will say, “The bank was just robbed at (location) and the suspects are described as two young males.” They are so PC they’ll risk the lives of the community rather than risk offending blacks by giving useful information to the public.
