FERGUSON, Mo. The mayor of Ferguson, Missouri, says police Officer Darren Wilson will not receive a severance package as part of his resignation from the police force. Mayor James Knowles said Sunday that the St. Louis suburb and Wilson have severed their ties and that Wilson won't receive any further pay or benefits following his resignation Saturday. Wilson's lawyer says Wilson resigned because threats had been made against other officers and the department because of his continued employment. A grand jury on Monday decided not to indict Wilson for killing 18-year-old Michael Brown during an August confrontation, sparking widespread demonstrations.

I see that nobody asked what you meant, so I am asking.
Less danger for now (no longer tagged with allegiance to him) but in the long run that can change as they too are pressed to the wall. This incident so much did not make sense to get black America into an uproar over. Easily seen at worst as an incident in which allegations are unproven, it has crossed over from logic to feelings. This is the equivalent of a child’s tantrum.
When “we” has God in it, then it’s a majority
Once again we see the power of the media turned against a morally and legally justified individual. The dead one was a robbery suspect who tried to take the officers gun then charged him and properly ended up dead, yet the officer is made out as guilty.
Well, we have a bunch of NAZIs right here in America
One would not expect a person resigning to get one.
I’m sure that most of the remaining white residents as well as a good number of police officers with be “quitting” Ferguson as well. Hey thugs of Ferguson, go visit East St. Louis and see your future.
Oh please. Does he really think that his leaving is going to change the way many of the people of Ferguson view the police department?
Very true, but...maybe it was a resignation and maybe it wasn’t. If you look at the USA Today version of this same story, this excerpt jumps out: “The white police officer who resigned almost four months after fatally shooting a black teen, setting off months of sometimes violent protests in Ferguson, Mo., was not asked to leave but “it’s best that we continue to move on as a community,” Mayor James Knowles said Sunday.” I don’t think we will ever know the full truth here, because we won’t know what discussions happened behind closed doors. It may have been a resignation, or it may have been an agreement for him to resign.
Thank you Slings and Arrows.
I bet their was some type of agreement to pay his health benefits/unemployment. I don’t buy a guy just resigns with no benefits or income potential for the foreseeable future.
I've never heard it happening below the upper, upper, upper management level.
A nice fund was set up, raised some big bocks. hopefully it won’t be needed for lawyerrs.
The last thing the Ferguson government wanted was Wilson back on patrol in a police uniform. I doubt any tears have been shed at this resignation, and no attempt to retain him or talk him out of it occurred.
Changing his name and moving to North Dakota is in the cards for Wilson, I suspect.
BOCKS are for chickens
Only if under contract and there is some sort of mutual settlement. Otherwise it makes no sense. Why would a company pay you for quitting. You may get your paid leave and/or accumulated vacation pay, but that is not severance.
I realize things may have changed since I was last updated on the common practice, but it makes no sense to me. Businesses can’t pay people for not working for them.
Guys if he is smart he has already retained council an they will be suing media commentator after commentator, professional athlete, he will never have to work again.
So, would the Ferguson government have been happier had he allowed himself to be killed in the line of duty?
The sickening but correct answer would be yes
