I have been in a situation where a restraining order would have been appropriate. Talked to the cops and they admitted getting the piece of paper is a waste of time. IF someone physically threatens my family I am equal to the challenge, and it doesn’t involve stopping to call 911 until the situation is over. There is no time to dial in those situations, you need to be prepared to protect your own. Unfortunately too many people have relied on a worthless restraining order.

They want to talk race, then let’s talk race!

It's not race, it's culture. Skin color has nothing to do with it.

The TRO only documents who is out to get someone. It only keeps those from that person who were inclined, with a little nudge, to stay away.

The really dangerous types don't care any more about the piece of paper than they do about hurting someone.

My (admittedly cold) comment was in reference to the shooter's statement that if she had obtained the restraining order he'd kill himself.

If she had and he'd kept his word, it would have worked...

I personally know two women killed by their spouses & both women had a TRO. I don’t disagree with getting a TRO; however, if a woman does, she needs to BE PREPARED to defend herself & any children, with deadly force if necessary & take precautions at home, work, in the car etc. This situation is a good example of when the police are minutes away (or more) when you have seconds.

Also, the woman in this story ... backing off the TRO when the abuser said he’d kill himself .... this just goes to illustrate how difficult these situations are. Abused women do not always act in their own best interests .. . it is extremely frustrating when they keep allowing the abuser back, giving second chances, or thinking that the abuser won’t kill her and/or the kids. Each case is individual & the TRO assessment should be made with a clear head, knowledge of the potential consequences, etc. ..... that’s often not the case. My best advice (and I’ve given it in an official capacity): when an abusive man (spouse, live-in, someone you’ve dated) looks you dead square in the eye and says “I’m going to kill you” .... believe it and protect yourself accordingly.

I am not so sure it is skin color anymore. I think there are genetic differences. I highly doubt any blacks in the US actually know or have been to Africa, yet, the blacks in Africa act the same way.

Absolutely. You’ll know when a piece of paper won’t have any affect on someone.

That said, get it anyway because in the post mortem of a shoot, or any other situation involving the police or courts, you will have that court acknowledgement that the person was a danger to you.

So, if you have to shoot in a situation where you know you are in danger but to a casual observer you may not have been, that paper helps to establish your fear of the person and the harm they may do.

That is why when a person, usually a female, has a dangerous person in their life it is always best to get a protective/restraining order. It is legal backing later in case something happens, and it usually does in one way or another.

Just thought I’d add this to the thread. Just put up at “The Hill.”

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/225534-mass-governor-i-wanted-to-see-an-indictment-in-ferguson-case

Gov. Deval Patrick (D-Mass.) on Sunday said he wanted to see an indictment brought against the Ferguson, Mo. police officer who killed African-American teenager Michael Brown.

“Look, without knowing all the facts, of course I wanted to see an indictment. And mostly because I think a trial and the transparency of a trial would be good for the community,” Patrick, who is black, told NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Patrick said he also wanted to see action taken against police officer Darren Wilson, who is white, “because so many of us have the supposition that police officers are not going to be held accountable and not going to have to answer for the shooting of unarmed, young, black teenagers.”

Brown’s death ignited weeks of some times violent protests in the Missouri town. Last week’s announcement that a grand jury would not seek charges against Wilson, after nearly three months of deliberation, set off a new wave of protests in recent days across the country.

The Justice Department (DOJ) is conducting a civil rights investigation into the August shooting and a separate examination of the Ferguson police department’s tactics in the wake of the incident.

Patrick, who served in the DOJ’s civil rights division during the Clinton administration, said the examination faces a “higher bar.”

“It’s a consideration about whether there’s been a violation of civil or constitutional rights that is different from what the grand jury in a state prosecution has to consider. And it’ll be a tough case to bring,” he said.

“It’ll be very difficult,” Patrick added. “It’s very important I think that DOJ is investigating it.”

The governor said that it was his “sense” that President Obama wants to visit Ferguson “to comfort the family of Michael Brown who are having to relive this tragedy all over again and to reassure both the community at large and the community of law enforcement.”

However, the president will likely stay away so as not to appear to be influencing the ongoing federal investigation, according to Patrick. [end]

I agree wholeheartedly.

Anyone who says they are going to kill me has instant and full credibility--and I will henceforth act in full belief of their statement, as I have in the past, and deal with the situation.

Women should do so as well, but have a tendency to be more easily emotionally manipulated.

My initial remark was a smartassed reference to him killing himself, not advice to the target of one of these nut-jobs.

The paperwork only adds credibility to the would-be victim if they have to dispatch the threat--which they should be prepared to do.

I call BS. The rioters and looters had been so fully community-organized they would have gone berserk at anything less than a public drawing and quartering of Wilson, and maybe even then.

The gibsmedats had already scoped out who and what they were going to loot and destroy.

Anyone who thinks different is only being played for a fool, or lying their butt off because they know better.

By blaming others, these fools only continue to sow the wind.

“Gov. Deval Patrick (D-Mass.) “

It would seem to me a governor interfering with another State’s judicial process would be violating that State’s laws involving such interference as obstruction of justice. It is often, if not always, a felony.

If anything, the ONLY person that seems to have violated any laws is Deval.

Seems Officer Wilson could also sue under federal law for violation of civil rights.

Always protect yourself because this could have happen at random by a person stalking another person.

The incident created enough fear to cause a lot of people to stay away from Nordstrom in that area. It caused a lot of people to watch other people with a much more discerning eye.
There are so many angry men walking around Chicago looking at women with hate spewing through them because they cannot have a relationship with any of these women. So women be very discerning of introductions, men approaching you and simply walking

g around with out a clue to your surroundings, people you meet and dating..

For you men who are full of anger for what ever the reason searching for inner healing first before you search for a relationship

For you men who are so angry and making any attempts
