Schumer: Democrats Should Not Have Pursued Obamacare
Weekly Standard ^ | November 25, 2014 | Michael Warren

Posted on 11/25/2014 9:13:30 AM PST by PJ-Comix

Senator Chuck Schumer of New York said Tuesday that he and his fellow Democrats made a mistake in pursuing health care legislation that eventually became Obamacare. Bloomberg Politics's Kathleen Hunter has the story:

“Unfortunately, Democrats blew the opportunity the American people gave them” in electing Obama and a Democratic Congress in 2008 amid a national recession, Schumer of New York said in a speech in Washington. “We took their mandate and put all our focus on the wrong problem -- health care reform.”

Democrats should have addressed issues aiding the middle class to build confidence among voters before turning to the health-care system overhaul, Schumer said. He spoke at the National Press Club to analyze the results of this month’s election, when Republicans took control of the Senate and increased their majority in the House of Representatives.

Schumer also said Democrats should "embrace government" in order to win future elections. Watch the whole speech here, courtesy of C-SPAN.

-Schumer doesn't feel 0bamacare was a mistake per se, he just thinks that the way it was implemented was politically costly to the Dem party.-

That's what they frequently say about communism....not that it is a flawed system, but that its never been properly administered.

'They' (Chuckles & friends) will never learn.

um...he goes on being a jerk, I would guess...

The dumblecrats had 4 years as a majority party to “help the middle class” which mysteriously includes poor folks on welfare and living on ebt’s...and they did everything they could to wreck it. Their pious blather caught up with them. They foisted the costs of zerocare based on lies deceit and sleight of hand and now are surprised that regular folks...the 95% who had decent insurance, are being hammered by double digit increases in premiums which will only continue, especially if the amnesty of Zerohissef stands. That’s more people who do not pay dumped into the system to be covered by those few who work.

Shumer is a liar and a worm...as all the dumblecrats are.
I want them so lost in the electoral weeds that they never threaten us again.

Democrats Should Not Have [everything they did].
Their bankruptcy of the Fed government since Reid came in will cripple us for a generation.

‘My dream is that there is a Goldwater moment with Obola.

That the Dems go to the White House and tell Obola he has to resign, like Goldwater’s meeting with Nixon in 1974.’

The Dems are in a really tough spot on this. If they attempt to pull a Nixon, black voters will hate them for perpetuity. But if they don’t, their brand will suffer irreparable damage, as Obama & his puppeteers continue to use the last two years to take vengeance on America.

The Dems have no winning moves. Just two spectacular losers.

So Chuck, I assume you’ll be amenable to a repeal bill, should the Republicans put one out there?

I’m really surprised they didn’t pin it all on Pelosi and jettison her out of leadership. It must mean that they’re hating Obama more than Pelosi or Reid.

I don’t watch Chuck Schumer and his evil smirk. This is a $1000 monitor and I want to get some use out of it before it’s destroyed.

Since Chuckie admits ObamaCare was a mistake, will he now vote for repeal? I doubt it. He woke up to reality way too late but is probably unwilling to correct their mistake.

This is al about Chuckie trying to rewrite history so that in 2016 when he runs fro re-election, he can tell the voters, "I was against Obamacare and so don't blame me for the 100% increase in your health care premium.

Chuck Schummer does not believe a word of his tripe that 'democrats should not have pursued obamacare". This is his way of saying to the unwashed, "I see that you are not pleased with our decision to socialize medicine, cause premiums to be raised, and create an inferior form of health care delivery". "We democrats believed that the 'common man' would never have caught on to our ploy." "We actually do believe in socialism/communism, and we thought that you would come with us because of the illusion of "free stuff" given to you after we steal it from its rightful owners." "We misjudged your level of understanding. And, it cost us the senate. For that loss,we are truly sorry. That is our lament, that you saw right through our lies." " So give us a little time and we will come up with even more deceptive and deceitful forms of communicating to you so that you will not catch on fast enough to cost us our elective jobs. We love Washington and we do not want to leave the greatest cocktail parties in the world."

"So we will regroup and come up with even more calumny and intrigue. Then, and only then, will we be able to complete to communization of this country."

‘One of those.....”It’s not what I meant to say....’

Schumer’s probably one of the few people who can get away with saying something like this. Obama & his handlers would settle the hash of most others. But Schumer is secure, and is evidently concerned about the increasing unpopularity of Obamacare.

It’s just very interesting that he would admit a mistake at all, even if it’s just in the order in which the Dems acted. I have thought since the midterms that the polls are off by at least 5 points. I.e.: that’s roughly what they were off on the eve of the election, in favor of Dems and against GOPers. The methodology was not modified, however. So whatever you see—such as Obamacare 39% favorable, or Obama 41% favorable—subtract 5 or 6 pts from it, and it’s probably more accurate.

I.e.: Schumer has reason to panic, and this admission, however slight, is evidence that he knows it.

obama won’t listen as did Nixon.
obama will resist leaving when his term is finally over.
But they MIGHT entice him with golf.

Nixon was a much better man and President than the current renter in the White House.

Then repeal it jerk!!!

He didn't say he was against Obamacare, he just said that it should not have been the first thing out of the box - that they should have passed other legislation first, to gain the confidence of the American public, then dealth with healthcare reform.

This schumer thing is a typical LIB/DIM. They will act as if they have become enlightened, but it is all LIES. They are insatiable termites eating at Western Civilization. There is no hope for them. I would only believe a DIM/LIB if they harikari-ed themselves after making a statement. Even then, I’d check it out first.

Chuck-U Schumer orchestrated the Demos takeover of Congress in 2006 and now his sees all that work in tatters. He finally understands they made a major blunder but only after the evidence was indisputable and the impact was catastrophic for Democrats. Talk about your slow learner. Of course, he hasn’t really learned anything about why the Democrats get everything so wrong.

A CYA from someone who is all ass.

He’s pretending that his rabid frothing mouthed support for Obamacare was just a little boo-boo, and he’s lying. He is a liar.
