Pro-Duggar Petition Wins; Media Accuse Duggars of ‘Stabbing Gays' with 'Daggers'

It’s called being a sore-loser. As journalists’ latest cause &nndash; pushing for the cancellation of the Duggar family show – fell flat, the media had a meltdown, complete with name-calling and murder accusations.

A three-month-old Change.org petition demanding TLC cancel its “19 Kids and Counting” show reached 150,000 signatures Nov. 22. The petition bashed the show’s stars, the Duggar family, for “LGBTQ fear mongering.” In response, LifeSite organized a counter-petition on that now boasts 180,000 signatures – after four days. While TLC stayed silent, media attacked the “homophobic” family and faulted Michelle Duggar of “think[ing] that she’s stabbing gay Americans” while “bloodying herself.”

On Sunday, Nov. 23, LifeSite posted an update acknowledging their petition’s win against the media:

We did it! We have surpassed the massive anti-Duggar petition on Change.org. And we did it with pure grassroots power, while the anti-Duggar petition had HUGE media support.

Proof of that claim? The anti-Duggar petition author himself. “We reached our goal of 100,000 so quickly once the media picked up the story,” Jim Wissick wrote in an update

Wissick began his petition after Michelle Duggar opposed a transgender bill in Fayetteville, Arkansas. In a call to residents in August, Duggar warned about the new law (a move he deemed “bigotry”) that allowed men to use women’s bathrooms and locker rooms:

I don’t believe the citizens of Fayetteville would want males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls.

Wissick’s petition won the headlines of outlets including E! OnlineCBSCNNThe Washington PostRaw Story,&nbsnbsp; The Huffington PostInternational Business TimesHollywood Life and Bustle

But the worst example by far came from TIME. Brian Moylan, who also writes for The Guardian, Vulture and (formerly) Gawker, called out Michelle Duggar – the “human baby factory” – in his piece entitled, “Thank You, Duggars, Your Homophobia Is Really a Public Service.”

Comments from socially conservative reality-TV stars like the Duggars or the Duck Dynasty’s Robertsons, he wrote, “hopefully” show “those out there who may not be very hospitable to the ‘gay lifestyle’ that bigotry is distasteful no matter how it manifests itself.”

“No matter how much it sucks, we have to just take it on the chin every time one of these yahoos has the bright idea to spout off,” he continued. “Every time a reality star says something ignorant about the LGBT community, a gay angel gets her wings.”

Finally, Moylan really ratcheted up his rhetoric:

Oscar Wilde, one of the world’s most public and tragic gay men, said “True friends stab you in the front.” There is no doubt in my mind that there are plenty of misinformed people in America carrying daggers against gay people, including those who have a public forum to discuss those views. Why would we want them hiding that hatred in the shadows when, out in the open, it can be diffused, acted on and used as a teaching tool to get more people on our side. We should all thank Michelle Duggar. She thinks that she’s stabbing gay Americans in the front, but what she’s really doing is bloodying herself.

What’s the definition of bigotry again? Or fear-mongering? I forget …

Unlike with Wissick’s petition, the media have proven reluctant to dedicate headlines to the more successful LifeSite petition. Some have though, including E! OnlineUS Weekly and International Business Times.

But the media censorship wasn’t enough for Wissick, who is now aiming for 500,000 petition signatures:

Please keep sharing the link to your FB friends, Twitter, Google+ and other social media outlets! Please also write letter to the editor of your local and non-local papers telling them why you think the Duggar's bully pulpit needs to be taken from them

Like Wissick, LifeSite also called for continued action:

We need to start pressuring the media to stop ignoring the pro-Duggar counter-effort. E-mail your local TV and radio stations, take to Twitter and post using the #DefendtheDuggars hashtag and tag a journalist or media network in your post.

Other petitions supporting the Duggar family’s show include a petition shared on Michelle Duggar’s Facebook page (55,000), a LifeNews petition (30,000 signatures), a Personhood USA petition (22,000), an alternative Change.org petition (10,000 signatures) and an American Family Association petition.

The three broadcast networks, ABC, NBC and CBS, have not yet noted the controversy.

The ninth season of the Duggar family show premiered this September.

I agree. Those so-called ‘steamy’ kiss pics they’ve been posting are obnoxious. No one wants to see it.

What happened to their modesty? I thought that’s what this abnormal and loony family is all about.

Nothing about this family is worthy of admiration and emulation. The viewer is not seeing everything. As a woman who has bipolar disorder I find their beliefs disturbing and unhealthy.

Don’t be so quick to admire this family. What you are seeing is a VERY small part of what they believe and what they do.

Christian Patriarchy is not wonderful and virtuous. It is anything BUT. I have looked it all up and what I read was disturbing. Men have total control over women. Females have virtually no control over anything. We must submit to our fathers and our husbands. We must have sex whenever the HUSBAND wants it and have kid after kid after kid even if it is harmful to the woman.

Think Andrea Yates.

Groupthink, some people who are homosexual say it is their cause, so that makes it so. That’s all it takes. Pretty frenzied, or useful tool for dark forces, if you ask me. But, like the princes of Darius, they want any excuse to go after people of faith, no matter how rediculous.

How about you don’t watch the show, I watch it, and go play pong, or whatever leisure activity you have.

"..., media attacked the “homophobic” family..."

Since God has defined homosexual behavior as being so evil it's an "obamanation", the leftists are stating they have more perfect wisdom than God.

Talk about arrogant stupidity...

As do I, I have yet to find any sane, non political individual who would want a man with male plumbing in the women’s restroom, or vice versa.

It’s not even hate for homosexuals it is reasonable disagreement with putting men, or simply guys with make equipment in the women’s restroom, plus, offering an easy way out from sex offenders via transgender operation.

I don’t disagree, but...

When you drill down to the core issue, leftists simply have a vitriolic hate of God and refuse to obey the perfect wisdom of His commands.

I DON’T watch it. I tried to but I couldn’t get past Michelle’s Kindergarten teacher voice and Jim Bob’s incessant need to be in total control. It’s sick.

Normal fathers do not obsess over their ADULT daughter’s sexual desires and monitor them to make sure there is no touching, lest hand-holding leads to sex.

This family is W-E-I-R-D.

The season ending episode last night was all about “Cousin Amy”, a set up for the future which leads us to believe there’s a whole lot more Duggar dynasty coming our way next year...not to mention the second daughter wedding.

Mrs Duggar has never drowned her kids in a bathtub, nor shown any instability indicating that she would do so. There are a wide range of practices that go under the label..”Christian patriarchy’ but the wisest practitioners are aware of Proverbs 31( the woman described in Proverbs 31 had a lot of freedom and power in that household). The Duggars have had 9 seasons to show if any “warts” would show up and other then aspersions cast by media nothing has emerged that can be used as a “gotcha”.

When you’ve got a successful product - Grumpy Cat, for example - you run with it until consumer tastes change.

Michelle hasn’t murdered her kids but there ARE mentally unstable women who should not be having kids but they will be forced to because that is all we are good for in their world. The whole thing is disturbing. Rational parents do not 1) Monitor and chaperone their ADULT children, 2) Rush their children into marriage, 3) Rush their daughters into having children, especially numerous children.

Everything moves so fast and the couple doesn’t even know each other because they’re never alone. How can a man and a woman really come to know each other on a deeper and intimate level when everything they do and say is monitored?

Until about 75 years or so that’s what common practice was in much of America and things for the most part worked out fairly well. The divorce rates seem to go up after things got so “modren and all high falutin’!

1) you live in your parents’ home. Fair enough that they be concerned.
2) are you interested in them dating on and off for years? As for cohabitation, it’s your parents’ home. Their rules. If they want you to move on and get your own home, even if rented, that’s fine with me. IMHO, the decision of whether or not you marry shouldn’t be indecisive for a while. Take the risks, move on.
3) Or did they just take the risks as young adults, and move forward? I personally am married , got married at 27, and we chose to have the children soon . The older Duggars children could have chosen to wait if they wanted to. However, likely given what they were used to growing up with, which wasn’t much for each child individually, I doubt many of them would be bothered by the prospect of living in a rented home with children not to mention having not so many toys for the children either. I doubt any of the children will choose to have 19 children.

There is concern, then there’s control. ADULTS do not need to be chaperoned or monitored. That’s just plain nutty. If you have raised your children with morals and values then you should not worry about them. And even if they DO decide to have sex that is THEIR choice because they are ADULTS.

If they want to move into their OWN HOME then they should be free to make that choice because they are grownups.

The Duggar daughters have no choice when it comes to getting married and having numerous kids. They have been trained to be the subservient broodmare who does what their husbands tell them to do. This is what Christian Patriarchy is all about. Look it up if you don’t believe me.

Again, they are showing what they want you to see. It’s called ‘editing’. Reality TV is hardly real.

In truth, none if us really know the minds of the Duggars. Period. A lot of us feel inclined that if something is disagreeable to us then it is brainwashing, mind control, etc. but we don’t really know. We only would really like to assume we know based on whose opinions are or are not in line with our thinking. For all we know, they could just be making plenty of decisions. My final statement though is: Neither you or I know for sure.
