Cardinal Sean O’Malley Applauds Obama’s Immigration Plan

This week, President Barack Obama set the change in immigration reform in motion by signing executive orders that would protect some illegal immigrants from deportation and allow some to obtain working permits.

Obama’s controversial plan has been met with mixed reviews, but among those who support the order is Boston’s own Cardinal Sean O’Malley.

“It’s much needed relief and we applaud what he has done,” O’Malley told WBZ-TV’s Paul Burton while handing out Thanksgiving turkey baskets in Dorchester Saturday.

O’Malley said the president’s solution is not a permanent one, but a step in the right direction.

“We have 11 million undocumented workers here is because we need it, and if they were to leave tomorrow it would leave a terrible hole in our country,” O’Malley said.

Obama’s plan may help to identify tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants, including those living in Massachusetts. However, many Republicans disagree with the plan.

“President Obama has turned a deaf ear to the people that he was elected, and he was elected, to serve. But we will not do that as the President undermines the rule of law in our country,” Speaker of the House John Boehner said in response to the order.

O’Malley said that many Catholic charities are preparing for community outreach meetings once the Department of Homeland Security presents a way that immigrants can apply for deportation protections and work permits.

“We’ve already started a multi-lingual telephone line so people can call in, and we will eventually give legal help for people to fill out applications so they can take advantage of this,” O’Malley said.

It is easy to applaud when there is no need to pay taxes.

"President Barack Obama set the change in immigration reform in motion by signing executive orders"

Did he now, Cardinal O'Malley. And would any such order bear the force of law? Or otherwise override existing law?

>>>O’Malley said the president’s solution is not a permanent one, but a step in the right direction.<<<

Is the Cardinal aware of the multitudes of Americans who have been hurt (physically and economically) or killed by these illegals?

I notice they never talk about them. Why?

So to O'Malley, the Catholic Church is just another social welfare agency that can hook up dependents to the government teat. Its disgusting.

If he’s going to talk like a Crow, why call him a Cardinal?

Ok fine. Now that they have declared themselves an arm of the Democrat Party, they can pay taxes on every dollar earned like a 501(c)4 does.

Which also means donations to them would no longer be tax-deductible.

The Catholic Church is not a neutral party. If they had to actually support these people..rather than expecting them to support the Church..they would be singing a different tune. We give billions and foreign aid to the Third World and give them trade preferences over developed countries and our own companies…we cannot support millions of more unskilled workers.
The Catholic Church also does not take into account the victims of the illegals..lower paying jobs, lost jobs, stolen ID’s, less money to educate our own kids it goes on.

Yes, the Church can pay the taxes to pay for their new “friends.”

Why would someone like Cardinal Sean O'Malley be a scofflaw? In all my readings of the bible Jesus obeyed the law and told others to obey the law. What does Cardinal Sean O'Malley say to those who wait in line and obey our immigration laws? Does he ask them why they are such dummies to actually believe that laws are to be obeyed?

This kind of action is puzzling to me. I can understand compassion for those in danger of being deported, but supporting those who jump the line and rewarding them while ignoring the law abiders is disturbing.

I would hate to think that our bishops and cardinals are corrupt. What kind of examples are they showing?

Catholic Charities receives hundreds of millions a year from the federal government, much of it to feed and house the illegal immigrants for the Unaccompanied Alien Child Project and Obama’s illegal amnesty decree...

Who is shocked? Going way back, Catholics have pushed for more immigration, legal or otherwise. And miraculously, so very often the immigrants who show up come from Rome dominated countries with shaky economies. If the countries to our south were dominated and run by old fashioned Protestants, I bet he’d be singing a different tune.

Well, of course he would. He and his Bishops are all part of the Scheme:

Some of Barack Obama’s most passionate Marxist minions come arrayed in priestly robes rather than business suits.

.....Claiming the same kind of altruism-laced brotherly love as Obama—who is eclipsing American sovereignty based on the propaganda that he’s reuniting families and vulnerable children—USCCB is the first religious organization to unabashedly lead the Amnesty cheering section......
