Private Military Contractors Hired to Move Guns and Gold Out of Ferguson

Business owners in the St. Louis, Missouri area have hired private military contractors to transport guns and gold, fearing their shops will be targeted by looters if a grand jury does not indict Darren Wilson, the police officer who shot and killed Michael Brown in the St. Louis County suburb of Ferguson.

"There's a lot of people that brought in a lot of money to have people secure their assets," said Stephen King, owner of Metro Shooting Supplies gun shop, a 15-minute drive from Ferguson. "Some of those people spent $10 an hour on security guards and some people have $1,000 a day private contractors."

King confirmed that gun shops in the area are hiring private military contractors to escort the transport of their guns to secure locations. A private military contractor who spoke to VICE News on condition of anonymity said that more than 300 private military contractors, or PMCs, have been contracted for work in direct response to Ferguson security concerns.

Jared Ogden, director of operations for Asymmetric Solutions, a private military contractor staffed by former special operations forces told VICE News his company was hired by businesses to transport "St. Louis-based company assets."

"We've got our hands in a bunch things" related to security in the Ferguson area, said Ogden, a former Navy SEAL who was featured on the National Geographic reality program, Survival Alaska.

Seems like the type of report that shouldn’t have made it to print until after the fact.

Actually, it's probably intended to be prophylactic.

I.e., "don't bother to break into my place, there's nothing left here."

Probably hoping the building doesn't get trashed and burned. Anybody with any sense moved all portable assets out weeks ago.

Why would you pay taxes to any government that refuses to protect you and your property?

It might be intended as a message that looting is futile. With all the time, intelligent thieves could come up with a solid plan to steal the gold and weapons in the midst of turmoil.

One concern by saying they are moving stuff out now is it might trigger the protestors to jump the gun (no pun intended). With the GJ decision being delayed, I want the areas in and around Ferguson to have as much prep time as possible.

This is what happens when you put your government in the hands of Marxist ideologues and black liberation theologists bent on delivering “social justice.” This turmoil is all being agitated by Obama, Holder, et al.

“Why would you pay taxes to any government that refuses to protect you and your property?”

Because if you don’t pay those taxes you lose your property and go to prison.

Maybe they can have a two-fer. The security guards can unionize and demand $15.00 an hr. The other idiots can demand the police officer gets the death penalty without a trial.

Those savages are going to riot and loot even if there is an indictment. Except, they will be celebrating.

I can’t imagine why any small business owner in or near Ferguson hasn’t packed up their inventory, decamped with haste to a safer location and informed their insurance company of what they are doing-staying at ground zero will only raise their rates and deductibles-might even get their policy cancelled...

If the fools there want to invite rent-a-mobs to create havoc and damage property, I really hope all the businesses go someplace where they can be safe and make money, and leave the agitators and looters a wasteland to exist in...

If you are a small business owner that is a big expense and an unproductive one.

Think about it. If you have 24/7 protection, which you would want if you are worried about looters these days, that is $1680 a week.

Those $1680 dollars do not generate sales or production of goods. The guard stands or sits in your facility and provides a deterrent to looters.

The article doesn’t mention if that guard is armed or not. So maybe the guard does not even provide protection.

A small business owner will think long and hard about hiring a guard service because that money is going to come off the bottom line with no foreseeable return on the investment.

If the business contracted for the guard long term they might get a cut on insurance but it would not come close to covering the expense.

Are they hiring Obama’s illegals in waiting for amnesty? If so they are probably paying them too much at $10/hour.
