NODAWAY COUNTY, Mo. – A homeschooling family has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit after they say their home was illegally searched by the sheriff’s department.
The Home School Legal Defense Association is aiding Laura and Jason Hagan. Their house was raided by Nodaway County Sheriff Darren White and Chief Sheriff’s Deputy David Glidden.

“Finally, the officers handcuffed and arrested Laura and Jason and charged them with resisting arrest and child endangerment.
All of this took place in front of the Hagans’ three young children, who were then taken to the emergency room to be evaluated for exposure to pepper spray.”
Wait, who was endangering the children?
“child protective services (CPS) caseworker had been inside the home several days earlier to investigate a report of a messy house and had returned for a follow-up visit.”
A messy house? My friend’s daughter didn’t get along with her sister-in-law and the SIL called CPS on her for a messy house. Great way to get revenge on someone.
A lot of CPS workers are power hungry thugs and gladly turn some dirty laundry on the floor into a felony.
Please people, let’s not call them jack-booted Nazi’s, they are obviously NOT behaving like stormtroopers here!
They didn’t just knock down the door and arrest everybody, they sprayed them with mace 5 times each, tazer the father 4 times, then arrested him. This is NOT jack-boot thuggery, this is American Justice!
Ban guns in the home, these parents couldn’t have gotten to them in time anyway.
It is perfectly legal to resist or ignore an unlawful order. Based on the fact the search got thrown out and charges dropped the family should walk away from this with a chunk of change.

And people here on FR are naive enough to think that county sheriffs are on our side. Hate to burst your bubbles, but to law enforcement, you are nothing more than a potential criminal to fine or incarcerate, nothing more, nothing less.
It’s even worse with a carbonated beverage; yuk!
And even baking their own bred! Horrors!

Just think if this family would have been...black.
I think those kids got some real schooling. They will not grow up ignorant.
This sheriff may be rotten to the core. He is a Democrat, but saying so is almost redundant:
I hope this couple sues the pants off the sheriff and deputy. The only problem is the town will likely foot the tab. These out of control cops should pay the freight.
Sooner or later they are going to try this no warrant crap with someone who’s gun is handy and there will be bloodshed.
Their attorney needs to move to have them stripped of qualified immunity so they can be sued personally and not just the county.
