He gave “Columbia” as in “District of”, a new meaning.
Thanks for laughs, Barry; but not much else.
I remember that day. Some "reverend" had the unmitigated gall to quote Luke 15:22 in Barry's honor. At the "victory" ceremony, he pronounced to the assembly: "Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet; and bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry!"
I never got a hug but he did shake my hand rather vigorously.
Not gonna say it. My mother taught me to not speak ill of the dead.
My favorite Barryism was when Marion lost his visitor privileges for receiving under the table blow jobs in front of other prisoner and their families in the visitation room. Class act.
Can you point to where anything I said was wrong?
Booker T Washington endured everything and more. And he turned out to be one of the most brilliant men this country has ever produced.
Your tripe just demonstrates with President Bush called, “The soft bigotry of low expectations.”
What about the bigotry of ignoring what other generations did to him and people like him? How come we want to remember the bad things he did, but ignore the bad things that past generations did to people like him? Do we judge him and all of them, or do we give him and all of them a pass?
Or are we going to judge him, and give them a pass?
How long ago was it?
Get over it!
I’ll make you a deal. You get over what Barry did, and I’ll get over “it”. Deal?
People have done wrong to each other since the beginning of time, blacks aren't special in that regard.
Hell no, Wrong is Wrong, period. Slavery was wrong, Jim Crow was wrong, Lynchings were wrong, and what Barry did was wrong.
The reply I wanted to post to this was answered by you next statement.
Hell no, Wrong is Wrong, period. Slavery was wrong, Jim Crow was wrong, Lynchings were wrong, and what Barry did was wrong.
We actually agree on this.
Now, reread my post in light of what you just said and I agreed with.
You made it sound you were excusing Barry’s behavior because of stuff that allegedly happened to him years ago.
"I don't defend his behavior or many of his actions"
"Yes, he was corrupt and did all of the things said of him"
"As I said, I don't defend him, but if he was beyond God's grace because of the things he did, then many others may want to reexamine their own lives as well."
Just when was he called “nigger” and by whom? He was middle class and got a chemistry degree. He mainly was a race-card, race-baiting fool.
Assuming no one ever called him that either to his face or behind his back, have you ever heard anyone exclude Marion Barry while talking about n*gg*rs in general?
He was middle class and got a chemistry degree.
Does any of that mean he was not justified in involved in the Civil Rights movement?
He mainly was a race-card, race-baiting fool.
I don't deny he went bad, I'm just not going to pass judgment on him for it. Someone else will handle that now.
And if that someone can forgive the Christians who called them n*gg*rs and shoved them to the back of the bus, that someone can also forgive Barry.
You go ahead and forgive him. He was a horrible person. Whatever he did, he did for himself. As far as I’m concerned he’s one of the reason black people are in the position they are today. He never helped anyone except himself, and he did a terrible job of that.
I don’t care who called him what. I’m sure he called and treated people much worse.
