Barbara Comstock a Republican was elected in Northern Virginia. So it’s not solidly blue.

>> Northern Virginia is now solidly Blue <<

Then how do you explain Barbara Comstock’s victory in District Ten?

Yep...and I think people there are smarter than that...
Myra Oberndorf was blatantly lib and Sessoms has proceeded to screw over pubs as often as he can....puzzling.

I’m very proud of Loudoun County for voting Gillespie and Comstock.

One of the aspects of the media’s job in electing democrats is to make sure conservatives and Republicans “can’t win/Warner is unbeatable”, so why bother to show up? If all the discouraged Gillespie voters had shown up. He’d have handily won

Except VA Beach really isn’t a “city.” It’s just a collection of suburban communities (with the beachfront area being the original town — the seat of government is the former rural hamlet of Princess Anne). Norfolk is a “city” in the proper sense (as is Portsmouth).

I know about Montgomery, which unfortunately is trending rodent because of the students. Alleghany is rather schizo in its habits. Mark Warner seems to be “popular” there for some unknown reason. He got a whopping 74% of the vote in 2008 over ex-Gov. Gilmore and still managed to hang onto 53% apparently. Conversely, George Allen carried it 52-48% over Kaine in 2012 (though lost it back in 2006 52-47% to Webb).

I have relatives in Loudoun. One is a government contractor and his wife. I can assure you they voted “red” (and I do NOT mean Republican).

I've heard it referred to as Northern Occupied Virginia.

More like Federal-Employee-Occupied Virginia.

I think Virginia would gone Republican in 2012 if a Ted Cruz type candidate ran... I bet Ohio, Florida and Virginia would have been red.

True. Which is what makes it and its electorate unique compared to most cities.

I live in Newport News so I am familiar. There is no reason the GOP shouldn’t be competing for VB and running up the 15-20 point victories of years past. You could add Chesapeake and Chesterfield County to the list. Even cities like Norfolk and Newport News have deep red areas within them (I live in one) That haven’t been turning out like they used to.
