Ted Cruz fires back at Al Franken

Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Al Franken (D-Minn.) are squaring off over whether new net neutrality rules would hinder or help the growth of the Internet.

After Cruz last week called net neutrality “ObamaCare for the Internet,” Franken over the weekend said that the Texas Republican had the issue “completely wrong.”

The Texas senator “just doesn't understand what this issue is,” Franken said.

On Monday, Cruz’s office fired back with YouTube videos and Vine clips that it said explains how tough Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules would “calcify” the Internet and prevent people from using it as a platform for innovation.

Cruz has been one of Congress’s most outspoken critics of President Obama’s call for the FCC to reclassify broadband Internet so that it can be regulated similar to a public utility, such as traditional phone lines.

Franken and other supporters of reclassification say it is the best way to ensure that Internet service providers such as Comcast or Verizon cannot prevent people from unfettered access to the Internet.

Cruz has a different take, arguing the move would turn the potential of the iPhone into something as antiquated as a rotary phone.

The Texas senator has framed net neutrality as government takeover of the Internet and has listed it as among the threats to freedom online.

Would it be a wise business decision for Verizon or Comcast to prevent access to the internet?

Al Franken is bug-eyed, sawed-off, mentally challenged, idiotic little hobbit. Not to mention a first-class turd, too.

Al Franken trying to match wits with Ted Cruz will not end well for the Senator from Minnesota. It wouldn’t even be entertaining.

Franken pushing for “Net Neutrality” is the MOST hypocritical thing EVER to come down the pike.

As we all know, Franken was a writer for SNL, which, since its inauguration in the 1970’s, has been a HALLMARK of ridicule of “the powers that Be”, ESPECIALLY if the administration was Republican. Chevy Chase as the Idiotically clumsy Gerald Ford, Nixon parodies, Both Bushes as complete dunderheads, and on and on were from franken’s pen. W took it well, inviting Dana Carvey to a state dinner. The Lyin’ King, however, does not take to ridicule kindly, and even light-hearted spoofing of HIM has cost the jobs of rodeo clowns and comedians.

Demanding this kind of policing of the Internet, while owing his career to his lampooning of the government exposes franken for the evil piece of garbage that he is.

No need for Congress to act when Obama has his pen and phone and sycophant at the FCC.

A totally fantatstic mental image would be of Sen Franken accosting Sen Cruz on the floor of the Senate over this.

I would be willing to pay into Sen Cruz’s defense fund if he was to wipe that smirk of Franken’s face. And make him need those adult depends.

“Would it be a wise decision for Verizon or Comcast to prevent access to the internet?”

Comcast HAS prevented access to internet, by “throttling” or slowing down your service if you use Netflix. It’s a matter of FCC record.

The extortion racket was two-pronged. One, make Netflix hand over a chunk of their profits to Comcast... because Comcast said so. Two, “encourage” users to ditch Netflix and pay for Xfinity, which is Comcast’s streaming service, and whaddaya know, enjoys “fast lane” speed.

And how does Comcast get away with the fiction that internet access service is a free market? There have no competition. Dial-up is slow. Satellite has latency issues. DSL is historically slower than cable. And now that Comcast is buying Time-Warner, Comcast is the only game in town for internet service in huge swaths of the country. How is that not a monopoly?

Since Comcast has proven that they won’t play fair with consumers or with companies like Netflix, just what is it consumers are supposed to do to push back on this kind of abuse when you can’t take your business elsewhere?

And can someone, for once, please explain to me how is the internet not a public utility, exactly like power and water, and especially in light of the fact that the US government invented it, at taxpayer expense?

You know who owns Hoover Dam? The people of the United States. You know who owns the internet? Here’s a hint: it’s not Comcast.

So more Federal taxes and regulation of the internet because you feel you have a right to have Netflix provided from your ISP?

Interesting...
