A better analogy would be that you are dying of kidney failure. Your only choices are: (1) elect to go on dialysis (i.e. vote for the lesser of two evils) and do whatever you can to get a transplant (a better choice next election) before it kills you, (2) give up, do nothing and wait for death to claim you (don't vote), or (3) go ahead and shoot yourself (vote for the Democrat) so you can die quickly and get it over with.
