JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard in advance of a grand jury decision about whether a white police officer will be charged in the fatal shooting of a black 18-year-old in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson.
Nixon said Monday that the National Guard would assist state and local police as needed, in case there is civil unrest when the grand jury's decision is announced.
There was no indication an announcement is imminent....

I fear you are right. I suspect the August protests will seem like a normal day compared to the potential of a “no bill” by the GJ.
If I lived in the area I would remove any valuables/family heirlooms and put them in storage far away and keep enough clothes and personal items in my car to be ready to leave the minute the decision is announced.
The fact that you need to activate the National Guard because you.know how a certain segment will act does not speak well of that segment.

I think Homeland, the DOJ, and the FBI are there to protect the protesters. Seems the National Guard is there to protect the reputation of the Governor... nah kidding - I think the Guard is there to pick up the routine type work so trained officers can be out on the street.
If riots start and police don’t get quick control this will be more like Watts than Ohio...
Funny, I thought of that too. I was a senior in High School when Kent State happened, about to enter college, and it was life-changing. It was inevitable given the incredible unrest of the prior months and the intransigence of both the college kids and the government. Ferguson is nowhere near that level -- it's just been boosted by the liberal media, like a lot of other things that sound like the end of the world, but they come and go.
I'd like to see this one be just a flash in the pan, maybe some people die over it but in the grand scheme of things it settles down and goes away. Or maybe even it could become a rallying point for the folks who are right and good, instead of the rioters, looters, and hoodlums.
I just don't see this as having the potential for lasting significance, even so much as a popular song that is still recognizable 45 years later.

By activating the National Guard, is the governor saying that “African-Americans” and protesters can’t abide by the rules?
You know they’re gonna find the Officer guilty right?
Not Guilty = Riots, destruction of property, ect.
Guilty = Riots and destruction of property, BUT the Grand Jury will say “It’s not OUR Fault...”
Basically they all are getting prepared because they know that the decision is not to move to trial. Which everybody already knew really anyways.
They also know that Ferguson is being pressured by many outside forces that have no right throwing their money around to cause chaos.....to get these black Americans to murder an innocent civil servant. They will say that’s all they want to do, but the consequence will be a blood bath in Ferguson that can easily spill over into the rest of America. These black Americans will do anything to find Wilson and murder him, any person standing in their way will be raped, sodomized, and/or killed. What do you think these black Americans and the groups of illegal “PLO” islamic sociopaths will do. It is what the crazy socialists want, and an American President is actively supporting this action in secret, and lying to the American people along with the NYTIMES.
Every militia in the US should be there armed to the gills to protect Wilson, his family, the community, his coworkers and anyone who disagrees (95% of that community) with these rabid dogs. If we allow them to do this, what happens when they come for me or you? Not one person will be there to help you. Yea, you’ll say that the national guard will protect them. But what about real American citizens who value life, liberty, the law, and true justice. People need to be there to stand up for what is right. Not just the National Guard who are ordered to be there.
Go, shut this BS down and send a message that we aren’t going to take it anymore. They even try to do what I think they are going to, we would be justified to respond in kind.
