When symptoms appear you may infect others. How quickly can a newly symptomatic person can be isolated?

A quarantine is to prevent others from becoming infected with a highly infectious and deadly virus.

No, Hickox claimed quarantine was unnecessary because she tested negative AND was asymptomatic. An asymptomatic person cannot trnasmit the virus. And, even once someone begins to display symptoms, their level of infectiousness increases gradually, so imposing quarantine/isolation once a patient begins to display possible symptoms is an effective countermeasure.

The fact is, no one in this country (or, to my knowledge, anywhere else in the developed world) has transmitted the Ebola virus in the early stages of the virus. Not Dr. Spencer. Not Nurses Pham or Vinson. Heck, not even Duncan - and that's with being sent home (with others in the apartment) well after the onset of symptoms. Duncan only infected the two nurses once he was in the hospital, when in the later stages of the disease (when it becomes highly, highly contagious). There is a reason for that, and a reason that Ebola is known as a "caregiver's disease" - it is exceedingly hard to transmit.
