COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Two men are facing charges after they were accused of target shooting in the basement of a Colorado Springs home.

Police say they responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired inside the house on Saturday. Officers say as they approached the house they heard more shots and noticed the front door was open.

My Dad would shoot ducks while taking a bath. He had a real bad back and instead of pills he would take long, hot soaks.

You'd hear the 12 gauge, then "go get that!"

The other day I was attaching two by fours to a concrete slab so I could install a wooden floor. I was using a .22 Ramset. The neighbors probably thought I had a shooting range going on but none of them called the cops.

When there’s a shot going off here, it means one less varmit to worry about.

The neighbors are all ranchers, so I am guessing they are shooting gophers, prairie dogs or coyotes most times.

I have an old article from the 1960s on how to set up a basement gun range. It said to use empty centerfire brass that has been reprimed and pressed into paraffin cakes.

I think I've seen that article. IIRC (don't laugh, it could happen!) it was from Popular Mechanics. They were using .45 cases, drilled out to accept shotgun primers.

When the NRA HQ was still in DC (1600 Rhode Island Ave.), they had a very nice range in their basement.

Same here. Back in the late 1950’s to mid-1960’s, my father and I had a back stop in the basement. My dad found a chunk of steel somewhere that was about 3/8” thick and about 4’ x 4’. We built a wooden frame around it. The metal was held at a 45 degree angle and there was a wooden box underneath that carried about 6” of sand.

I bought some .22 short “gallery” loads. They disintegrated when they hit the steel. There was a small shower of sparks when it hit. We also used standard velocity .22LR. They were louder, but more accurate. The sand safely stopped them. We never had any problems with the Police, but I don’t know that any of the neighbors could have heard them.

Some time later, I started shooting the .38 caliber plastic bullets/cases that were sold by Speer. They were propelled by only the primer. They were a standard item, sold at most gunshops, so someone other than us was shooting in their basement.

My grandfather was a Detroit cop and lived on Detroit's east side. In the basement, common to the brick homes built in that day, there were two rooms in the very back of the basement. One was where coal was stored and the other was a fruit cellar or fruit room.

In the fruit cellar portion, he stored wood logs and he and my dad (also a Detroit cop) would use them as the background for shooting their service revolvers in the basement........LOL!

A gun is an outside toy.

The indoor range I use disagrees with you.

Rochester, Minnesota: My uncle had property next to a farm. They had horses and a hay barn. Between the hay barn and the horse barn ran a electric wire.

One Thanksgiving while at the table eating dinner, my uncle who was seated next to a window, noticed a pigeon on the wire. He opened the double hung window, grabbed his rifle from the wall, loaded it and shot the bird dead while in his chair at the table.

After dinner we went out and found he had hit it in the neck.

Some people have other things on their minds when they have company over for dinner.....
