UPDATE: Angry Town Residents Shut Down Nanny Statists in Meeting on Tobacco Products Ban

Earlier this week, I wrote about the nanny-state government in the town of Westminster, MA, considering a town-wide ban on the sale of tobacco products. A meeting was planned for Wednesday night to hear public comment on the proposed ban.

So, how did the meeting go?

CBS news describes, “Only a handful of people were able to speak on a proposal that could make the tiny Massachusetts town of Westminster the first in the nation to ban all sales of tobacco products before boos and shouts from the crowd shut down the public hearing Wednesday night.”

According to the CBS report, 60 people were registered to share their opinions and “several hundred” held signs opposing the ban. The Boston Globe reported the audience at 500 people.

WOW! Regardless of your position, kinda nice to know that some people aren't gonna put up with ever increasing intrusion by the nannies. I'm sure this isn't the end of it. If we could get enough people who believe in the 2nd Amendment to get this vocal.

People in Massachusetts have finally had enough.

Just as in 1775.

From the article: “The decision to ban tobacco rests with the Board of Health. “

To fix government in the United States Congress, state legislatures, and local elected government councils must take back the power of lawmaking and rule making from unelected bureaucrats, boards, and commissions. Any law, rule, or regulation limiting the freedom of an individual must be the result of an actual vote of the representatives of the people, not an edict from the judiciary or the executive.

Lots of video out from this meeting, with the clueless lib officials looking like deer caught in the headlights, and then resorting to shutting down the meeting and fleeing the premises under police guard. It was beautiful to watch!

I hear the ushered out the Politico's with a Police Escort. FWIW, it reminds me of town meetings post Obamacare and before the 2010 Elections. The Statist on the Dais in both instances had no flippin' clue people put wanted their Liberty 1st. I won't say Mass is awake, having spent some time their just before 11/4 all is not well in the Bay State maybe an understatement, however they are stirring...

Liberals are pro-choice on abortion and only abortion. Otherwise they don’t want people to have choices about how to live their lives.

The Board of Health is now only taking complaints in writing. The implication is they want to squash dissent with the threat of turning you nin the the Department of Revenue.

Boston Suburbs and P Town. I guess I meant where “normal” people lived.

I think what a lot of folks do not realize is that most of the time the conservatives in MA do not even bother to get involved, because the machines in the dem districts are so strong.

When you get down to the individual issues such as Obamacare (which was the issue when we elected Brown) and this tobacco issue (in Westminster) will bring out the conservatives...or at least the libertarians.

For 90% of the issues, the average conservative here just doesn’t feel empowered enough to do anything. The social issues here are not enough to get folks moving. MA tends to be socially liberal (gay rights, abortion, and what not) but fiscally conservative.

For example, we have a large jewish community in our town. Our kids get the Jewish holidays off. We move our football games around them in the fall. When someone brings up the Eid holiday or Ramadam, the school committee pretty much said, when it is enough to close the schools we will put them on the calendar. Otherwise, write us a note beforehand and we will deal with your kids on an individual basis.

You see, as small groups we can be sensitive, but not crazy PC. As a state, the looney birds are in charge and that is not going to change.

I lived in Massachusetts for 20 years up until the end of 2008. I lived in north shore, south shore, Boston and also in southern New Hampshire. Massachusetts is an anti-family, atheistic socialist/Marxist, anti-2nd amendment, totalitarian, authoritarian state. That includes their teachers, Catholic and Episcopalian clergy (won’t speak for the others), state government and the court system...and especially their family court part of the system.

I live in the great state of Georgia now and, comparatively speaking, Massachusetts is a freaking disgusting place to live, especially, if you’re a conservative.

They say that about Maryland (regarding the Baltimore PG Axis of Evil) ... and yet I not that the current congressional delegation from the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts is 100% democrat.

Same as Maryland ...

Have I missed it, or is there a SINGLE County Clerk who has REFUSED to issue a marriages license to same sex couples? I saw one Judge who resigned rather than comply.

But, that's avoidance. What is required is RESISTANCE.
