Planned D.C. Everest boycott of Obama school lunch act is being watched nationally (Nov 13)

WESTON, Wis. (WSAU) -- Monday morning, we told you about how a D.C. Everest High School student is organizing a school lunch boycott November 13th, as a protest to Michelle Obama’s Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act’s menu and calorie restrictions. Since WSAU brought you that story, it has been reported by several national and world media outlets.

Organizer Meghan Hellrood says the reaction to the story surprised her, but says it has helped make her fellow students pay more attention to the school food issue. “I think so. I think that more students are now aware of the whole issue, and are more excited now that it’s gotten so much attention, and they feel that, now that they’re definitely being watched, that this actually has an effect. They feel that there’s actually a purpose to it.”

Once the national media heard about the planned boycott and the D.C. Everest district’s rationing of mayonnaise and barbeque sauce packets to keep lunch calories down, Meghan says her parents’ phones started ringing. “My dad texted me during the day saying I needed to call him, and when I finally got around to the phone and called him, he said that it reached the Drudge Report, which I thought he was kidding about. I was like, very funny dad, but it turns out it actually did, and then it went to Fox, and then they got in contact with me.”

Buy your own lunch but don’t expect taxpayers to pay for more than the basic minimum.

Im not getting this at all. The school lunch thing isnt a law nor does it have any official govt backing. Its simply the ABWs attempt to be relevant. Its so much drama...dump the silly thing and move on w/ life.

My daughter mentioned last night how her classmates were complaining about the impact Michelle Obama’s policy has had on their school lunches. She has turned a whole tranch of youths against the Democrats, for which we should be grateful.

THIS is what the Republicans should run on in two years.

Funny, the boycott hasn’t made the news in the Florida media, where Obama is treated as the king.

I love how this is taking off under it’s own steam. I do hope her parents are self employed and have their taxes in order. Somebody is going to try to get this girl and Mooch on the same couch together either talking about food, or making a lunch together. If the girl is smart, she’ll be ‘washing her hair’ that day.

I don’t know what ABWs are, but the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 is a federal law and it does have official government backing through the USDA.

My guess is someone associated with Michelle is making tons of money from this program that we’re not seeing.

Unfortunately, some schools inspect packed lunches to make sure that they are Mooch approved. If the packed lunch does not meet the standards, it’s thrown out and the student is given a school lunch. The fee is sent home.

"Michelle Obama’s Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act"

It makes for hungry kids.
See how this and all other Liberal programs work.
A nice lofty name and then it does something else entirely.
