Barbour Eats Crow After Calling Obama's Issues "Tar Babies
Newsms.fm ^ | 11\11\14 | Chris Davis

JACKSON, Miss.–It was a conference call with former Gov. Haley Barbour’s lobbying firm after last week’s election, where Politico reports Barbour referred to President Obama’s issues as “tar babies”, a term some consider racially insensitive since it refers to tar babies in Joel Chandler Harris’ “Uncle Remus” stories.

Those stories were made into the movies “Song of the South” by Disney, which has since made people angry with what many perceive to be black stereotypes.

Some consider Barbour to be a stereotype himself, when talking about Mississippians with a thick accent and conservative politics.

Barbour said in the call that no one will run for president who will endorse Obama’s issues because the issues are “tar babies”, reported the website.

Barbour issued an apology, saying that he was sorry if the term offended anyone. - See more at: http://www.newsms.fm/barbour-eats-crow-calling-obamas-issues-tar-babies/#sthash.UwD2nN2j.dpuf

Barbour is definitely a putz, but “tar baby” as a phrase can hardly be offensive unless you want to be offended.

If Barbour was a Dim, this would be a non-issue.

A tar baby is something that seemed attractive, but you just can't let go of, get rid of, and isn't so attractive after all.

It is an expression, and even was a candy iirc (licorice gummies). Nothing racist about it, really, unless someone decides that because tar is dark in color the expression is "racial", which would only trumpet their ignorance.

Pity people are denied the fundamental wisdoms found in Uncle Remus, they might come in handy--especially today.

“Eats Crow” sounds darn racist to me. Would they be talking birds of the dark feather persuasion or are they defaming a native American tribe? Kind of like the pot and the kettle.

Please let this be the end of the MS Boss Hogg .... although what he did to Chris McDaniel and in the run-off should have done it too.

It was Haley Barnour who arranged the hundreds of millions of dollars to finance sgrifter Terry McAuliffe’s fake environmental car company -— you know, the one that put little fiberglass bodies on golf cart frames to bilk investors and stuff cash in the pockets of McAuliffe and, of course Bill Clinton.

I understand that it “is” available in Europe (and likely other foreign venues), but that the formats are not compatible with US players.

Tar baby is a metaphor for a something you can’t get free from once you touch it. If something is racist just because it appears in “Song of the South” does that make talking rabbits racist?

They should be mad at Obama for making them look bad.

I guess it makes me “post racial” that I didn’t recognize half of the racial slurs they were exchanging in that old SNL sketch.

It's about disconnecting Americans from their heritage and history.

There were also friends in the Uncle Remus stories. Does that make the term "friends" racist? Liberals are so quick to play the race card and so stupid to take it seriously when that card is played.

If I’m not mistaken, wasn’t PINE TAR mixed with charcoal to make it black?

What about pine sap?

Most of the country don’t know what a “tar baby” is.

“he shouldn’t have apologized.

He shouldn’t have, the term “tar baby” is an example of a descriptive phrase being co-opted by the “political correct” who chose to be offended. It is an accurate description of a sticky problem. Some one should apologize for calling haley a Conservative, he’s a vindictive
opportunist.

I’ve heard it originated from the tar that washed up on North Carolina beaches, Tar Heels, and that it was derived from pine sap, probably both.

He is an idiot for 1, saying it and, making himself an even bigger idiot, 2, apologizing for it.

Wikki has a great article on it.

So maybe we should start referring to the TAR BABY as a pine sap baby!

Remus was one of the founding twins of Rome. So maybe that makes it Italian?
