McConnell unveils plan to dismantle ObamaCare
The Hill ^ | 11-6-14 | Sarah Ferris

Posted on 11/06/2014 10:50:08 AM PST by afraidfortherepublic

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is planning to make ObamaCare a priority in his first weeks as leader of the Senate, vowing a sustained effort to dismantle the law piece-by-piece.

Instead of a full repeal, McConnell said the GOP will tackle unpopular aspects of the law such as the individual mandate, the medical device tax and the 30-hour workweek requiring employers to provide insurance.

“These are the kinds of things that I believe there is a bipartisan majority in the Senate to approve,” he said in the interview with Time magazine published Wednesday. The only other priority he listed was the Keystone XL pipeline. The newly reelected senator isn't giving up on full repeal, however.

"He does support full repeal and will continue to push for it," McConnell spokesman Brian McGuire told The Hill.

uhh... are you paying any attention at ALL???

How about you? That tsunami on Tuesday was a demonstration that people are PI$$ED OFF! Millions have lost their health plans (me included).

Let him surround himself with sob stories!!! The PEOPLE are not going to give two $hits about that as they're currently looking at $12,000 deductibles and paycheck-busting monthly premiums.

A serious efort would simply be the House defunding the whle of Obamacare and the other laws that carry much of the nonsense that is part of obamacare. That is already forsworn and the effort is not serious. There is too much money to be made. Politicians will not kill their golden egg source.

The idea is to make Obama veto the repeal.

And to smoke out some Democrats and force them to vote for the bill again.

You may insult me all day long.

But I know how legislation in passed into law and how laws can be repealed.

I told you the only way I know how Obamacare can be fully repealed.

If you have another way to repeal it, kindly share it.

The simple answer is NEVER to vote for Dems in the first place IMHO.

Remove Obama first. That is the path.

Now send him a repeal of the individual mandate, which everyone knows and absolutely hates, and make him then stand there and defend forcing people to buy health insurance under threat of the IRS.

You do not make sense: If the individual mandate goes down, so does the whole law, so to your plan he'll also say, "I will not destroy the Affordable Care Act."

A repeal bill would not be thousands of pages long. A repeal bill can be done in a single paragraph. You put it on Obama’s desk and force him to veto it. Then you call for a vote to overturn the veto. If you lose, then you have at least fired a shot across the bow and forced Obama and his democrat senators to go on the record so THEY own it.

If you start out with piecemeal legislation tying to “fix” it then you are conceding that the law is both constitutional and worth trying to fix. Then when it all goes to Hell, the democrats can blame the Republicans for breaking it.

“If the individual mandate goes down, so does the whole law”

Now you’re getting it.

“so to your plan he’ll also say, “I will not destroy the Affordable Care Act.””

Ah, he CAN say that all he wants, but what everyone will see is that he vetoed the repeal of the part that everyone hates the most. The one part that was sent to him.

Not to “fix” but to force him to kill it by sending him the most hated (but key parts that keeps the mess running) to either sign it, and thus killing it, or vetoing it and having the public turn even harder on him and the Democrats.

It isn’t piecemeal for the sake of it. It’s to have him makes a Sophie’s choice. Either tank the Dems further into the ground or tank Obamacare.

The medical device tax is SMALL BALL.

Hey, it helps Ireland. Just because making advanced medical devices is a job Americans will do is no reason their betters in DC should let them!

Repealing the damn tax is a good warm-up. See how many loyal 'Rats vote against repeal. And damn Obama if he vetoes it!

I would first force the Democrats to vote for it again.

It doesn’t take all that many defectors to make it veto proof.

And a lot democrats DO NOT want to go on record voting for it again - especially now.

The People hate *ObamaCare*. That's all most of them know. Probably 95% of those "everyones" you talk about have no idea what the individual mandate is.

You think losing the entire country in a complex policy-wonk debate about the merits of "the individual mandate" would be more effective than simply "repealing ObamaCare?"

Not many people are as informed as those on this forum. Nobody I know who has seen these ball-busting monthly premiums and astronomic deductibles has ever said to me, If not for that individual mandate.... No. What I have heard quite often however is, F***ing ObamaCare!

I agree with Marlowe. There’s no need for a thousand pages to repeal the law. You could do it with one sentence, probably. “The ACA of such and such a date is repealed in its entirety and in all its extensions.”

There you go. Up or Down; Yes or No.

And then the other guys own it.

I do not trust the republicans as constituted to ‘repeal sections of it’. Instead, they will ‘fix’ sections of it.

The end result will be the New Revised ObamaCare, and we’ll be participants in preserving a legacy for lil Barry Obamer.

Truth be told, big business wants out from under health care as much as they want amnesty and cheap labor. I agree with them, though, that there’s no more logical reason for your employer to pay your health insurance than for him to pay your car insurance.

The answer? Like with car insurance, let everyone just buy their own. No need to get the government involved telling me I need to buy contraception and sex change coverage. Let me decide that. I’m in the best position to know if I’m lopping off any body parts this year.

Absolutely kickbacks to donors….almost assuredly Democrat donors, tho the big company lobbyists spread the wealth around.

I’ll give them an extra $10 to do the Obolacare paperwork, but the rest is pure gravy. And a scandal.

I have no problem with new GOP majority in both houses of Congress passing a bill to repeal Obamacare and putting it on BHO’s desk-—just to get everyone’s vote on record. “Make ‘em squeal!” As Sen.-elect Joni Ernst R-IA would say.

But we all know BHO would promptly veto it and Obamacare will remain the law of the land until we have a new POTUS. I seriously doubt BHO would repeal his signature legislation which he regards as his greatest accomplishment.

But yeah...have the vote...getting everyone on record. I have no problem with that.
