DES MOINES, Iowa – Joni Ernst has been elected as the next U.S. Senator from Iowa. The Republican, a state Senator from Red Oak, defeated Democrat U.S. Representative Bruce Braley in one of the nation’s closest watched elections.

Ernst will fill the seat currently occupied by Senator Tom Harkin. Harkin, who has served in the U.S. Senate since 1985, announced in January 2013 that he would retire at the end of his term in January 2015....

I hope that is right, up 2%. Braley probably did better in the cities and the xtra boost by Hillary, Michelle, but the rural precincts will be slower to report and Braley insulted Grassley, a farmer. I don't know how much gets out to rural areas but I would think since Joni has a farming background, they will prefer her plus the R helps in all but the cities in IA.

Now we will have to see how it turns out. Maybe the absentee ballots will determine it.

Joni 50% Braley 46% is what they are saying on the radio but I missed the details. Oh I hope it will hold. I'm on an Iowa feed tonight, must be out of Des Moines.

ABC had her ahead fir the first time tonight but not called. 50-46. But they (Ernst supporters) are celebrating.

I'm so happy for her if she pulls it off. That was a tough race and she is a real trooper. She did Muscatine today, don't know where else.

Your #36. You understand Dem strategy in Iowa. It's confusing to me but maybe I got it pretty close in my last post before this one. In the QCT she got off on the wrong foot by saying Iraq had WMD. The Dem posters were blasting her for that. I always suspected they got to Syria. Now we know there was more because of Bush's guy said, can't think of it off hand.

But little by little things got more and more positive for her. People really like her. Sometimes it comes down to that.

I have to filter out all the negative Dem politics in IL but Iowa does tend to flip flop. Except where I live. All Dem and getting worse.

Joni on now. “WELL, IOWA, WE DID IT!!!!!” She had gracious words about Braley in her intro and I almost thought she was making a concession speech lol. Nope. Going to Washington!

Most of the Joni ads that people love are from the primary. She ran a lackluster campaign until the last few weeks.

Braley just wasn’t an attractive candidate. Tone-deaf ads. Didn’t connect with the Catholic voters on Iowa’s east coast that Dems depend on. An outsider to the Des Moines area; lot of handicaps.

I don't know, he wasn't handsome but photogenic for a lawyer. Maybe it was using his clout in the homeowner's ass'n against the neighbors chickens. That didn't go over well! And they couldn't hush it up. lol

She's done talking now. Asked what was the highest point in her campaign. "Tonight". lol. lots of folksy stuff, grew up very poor, state fairs, family.

I'm really happy for her. She will do her best for all Iowans unless it's against her moral compass.

You know another thing that is so heartwarming about all this? Obama said that the election would be about his policies. HE WAS RIGHT!!!!!! Republicans gained in the HOUSE and the SENATE, and some GOVERNORSHIPS!!!!!!!!!

‘You know another thing that is so heartwarming about all this? Obama said that the election would be about his policies. HE WAS RIGHT!!!!!!’

Thanks for reminding me. The Narcissist in Chief just couldn’t help himself, could he? He just had to make the election all about him.

Well he got his wish. It was about him, all right. The voters have finally had enough.

Prediction: there is a lot of golf in Obama’s future. Anything to get himself out of the WH, and the constant reminders of his epic unpopularity.

The churlish behavior of Obama over the next two years is going to be spellbinding. I wonder when he will finally trip himself up, and if he might be removed by his own party before his term is up. If he has damaged them this much by now, think of what might happen in two more years.

The resentment the Dems feel toward Obama tonight is not going away any time soon. If he were Bill Clinton, he could schmooze his way back into his fellow leftists’ good graces. But Obama has the charm of a prickly pear. It *will* be interesting to see what the Dems do about their WH problem. They are not known for cozying up to electoral poison. Should be an interesting two years, God willing.

I'm going to use that as my tag line for a while, it is an excellent observation.
