Race and Reaction
American Thinker ^ | 11/2/2014

The Democrats have committed themselves to flushing generations of progress on race down the toilet. That is, flushing the progress whites willingly made toward perceiving and treating all persons as equals. It’s not so clear that any other groups even got the memo that equality and peaceful coexistence were the supposed goals of racial “justice”. Indeed, one now wonders if we got different memos entirely

Growing up in the 60s, 70s and 80s in the Boston area, my upbringing was fairly typical, from what I saw. We were white middle-class kids who were raised to respect others, regardless of skin color...

In that time, with the message of the ‘60s and Martin Luther King, Jr. still fresh, we saw no difference or inferiority in other races and were not taught to see them. All were the same, working hard, trying to do well for themselves and their families and, we thought, pulling toward the same outcomes when it came to creating one big, peaceful melting pot of Americans.

My earliest memory of a realization that this might not be completely true was in the late 80s and early 90s, when I became aware of Democrats publicly claiming that Republicans didn’t like blacks, or children, or the sick, or anyone. I thought this was ridiculous, and that sensible people would dismiss this tactic. Then, in 1995, I watched with shock as black students and others celebrated the verdict in the Simpson case, because a black man literally got away with murdering two whites, and the light came on that all my assumptions and benefits-of-the-doubt might be misplaced. Of course, I knew nothing about Black Liberation Theology, or Black Power, or any of the movements that preached dissimilation, self-segregation, and hatred toward whites, merely because they were white.

...It is becoming clear that in minimizing racism, and in eradicating it from our lives, whites may have been acting largely alone, at least when one considers the enormity of the appeal to blacks to perpetuate racism toward whites, and the pervasiveness of that conviction in so many blacks who are given the soapbox of cable news.

Many whites are simply content to wash black fetuses down the toilet to fix race relations; whites on both sides now know the problem will never be resolved, and a new welfare class is being imported from south of the border to replace them.

Can’t say we didn’t try...

What a pant load of crap! People that make such comments provide the biggest problem with race relations! Abortion has nothing to do with "race relations".

Like poverty, Dems never really wanted to eradicate racism. Racism would always be the stick Dems would use to beat Republicans over the head with. Just imagine...what use would the Dems be if people stood on their own two feet instead of relying on government?

No, Dems will never give up the racism and inequality trope...too much power and money in keeping their favored constituencies poor and ignorant.

Yup.

For me, the classic example is always government schools:
If a school is turning out well-educated, well-behaved students, and then asks people to greatly increase the budget, the response is likely to be: "Nope. You're doing fine."
But if a school is a disaster, with poor test scores, lots of fighting and drugs, and then asks people to greatly increase the budget, the response is likely to be: "Have millions! Hire more staff! What else can we give you??"

There is no incentive to fix any problems. If you do a BAD job, the money just flows to you, endlessly.

All my life the Republican Party has been about content of character. And the Democratic Party has been, and is, about parochial interest - obscure it as they will.

And wire service journalism has been all about appearances - so Democrats and journalists have been simpatico all my life.

We who have never been racist, and who will still not be racist, are beginning to wonder why we shouldn’t adapt to this new reality [vis-a-vis race] and accept the fact that perhaps we are not all alike in our desire for peace, that we do not all want the same things, and that what is wanted from [whites] is our surrender and conviction for crimes we have not committed . . . Hearing ourselves slandered every day, we are forced to [recognize that those] who have worked against racial strife . . . are being blamed for it all.

I think I understand what the author means and agree but I would think other factors should be considered also.

  1. Celebrating 100 years!

“There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs-partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs. ~ Booker T. Washington (1856-1915.) ~ Educator, Author, Civil Rights Leader

    and
  2. this advice from Abe.

You initiated a policy to tolerate the Marxist-Alinsky radicals and let them rant; not only has it not ceased but was constantly augmented by decades of infiltration and indoctrination. You now have two Americas. In my opinion, it will not cease until a crisis shall have been reached and passed. A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half statist and half free; I do not expect the house to fall; but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing, or all the other.

(The radicals are using race as a weapon.)

  3. Islamists recruiting Black Americans for cannon fodder
  4. more from Abe about him being on the other side in today's civil war.

I am not on the other side. It is as if the slave masters occupy Washington but we the people are the government.

Both parties deprecate war, but one of them would make war rather than let the Constitution survive, and the other would accept war rather than let it perish, and the war has come -- so far consisting of words only. The former is to reject inalienable rights and the latter is to live by inalienable rights.

To strengthen, perpetuate, and extend the former is the object for which the statists would rend the Republic even by actual war, while the Originalists claim no right to do more than to Constitutionally restrict the statists.

Using race to help "Bring it all down, man!" There were many on the left in the 50's, 60s' and 70's who tried hard to start a race war. I remember. But it seemed to me that the effort failed because the rest of us of all races realized that we were Americans first.

Dems never really wanted to eradicate racism

That assumes that 'racism' is eradicable. I am about 100% certain it is not particularly since 'racism' is largely in the eye of the beholder and is almost always defined by the user of the term.

I think this picture illustrates well why it is not eradicable. Just as more recently the whole Ferguson fiasco has and a list a mile long of other racial events.

"not eradicable"

I agree. But even given the fact that racism has long since passed as a reason for black dysfunction (if it ever was the reason...which is debatable), the Dems have to keep on using the chimera of racism as a reason.

Abortion is the solution to race issues. In my town plenty of pregnant white teenagers had to travel to black areas to get abortions. That was no accident.

Margaret Sanger herself said it; don’t shoot the messenger.
