Tea Party Support May Put GOP over the Top in 'The Hold Your Nose Election of 2014'

From Kansas to Kentucky, North Carolina to Alaska, Tea Party supporters who saw their endorsed candidates lose to establishment Republicans in U.S. Senate primaries are holding their noses as they prepare to put endangered Republican candidates over the top with their votes in closely fought U.S. Senate races.

Control of the U.S. Senate hangs in the balance.

Republicans must pick up 6 seats to obtain a 51 seat majority. On Friday, Real Clear Politics estimated that if the election were held today, Republicans would hold 47 seats, Democrats 45, with 8 seats up for grabs on Tuesday tossups that either party could take on election night.

Several of these tossup states went through bitter Republican primaries in which the establishment candidate defeated the Tea Party-endorsed candidate. While support for the establishment victors by the vanquished Tea Party primary opponents is a mixed bag, recent endorsements by some former intra-party foes, combined with pragmatic decision making in the minds of Tea Party voters around the country, may bring enough reluctant voters to the polls for Republican candidates to ease the party into a Senate majority.

In Kansas on Thursday, Tea Party-backed Dr. Milton Wolf endorsed incumbent Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS), albeit reluctantly, in his tight race with Democrat-backed "Independent" candidate Greg Orman. Wolf's endorsement came one day after the Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund, which had backed Wolf in the primary, endorsed Roberts.

" The Hold Your Nose Election of 2014" In my opinion, this may be the last Hold Your Nose Election.

No it won't. Conservatives have been saying that for the last 3 Election Cycles, but, the GOP Establishment keeps dissing them and pi**ing on them and, as you can see from this article, they always crawl back for more abuse.

A lot is going to depend on the GOP & the GOPe and what they do in the next two years.

Once again, we've heard that again and again and again. Most Conservtives talk tough but they have no ba**s. Mitch McConnell hates Conservatives, hates the Tea Party, vowed to crush them wherever he finds them and now, 87% of them are back kissing his a** like good little boys and girls.

....we must hold their feet to the fire....
___________________________________________________________

Oh yeah? How’s that been working for you for the past 6 years? Two years from now, we’ll all be back here at FR saying: “This is the last time we’re gonna hold our nose and vote for RINOs..... and we’re gonna hold their feet to the fire” BULLSHIT! The big, bad Conservatives will fold like a cheap suit again just like they’re doing this year in running back to Mitch McConnell.

We’ll stop Jeb just like we stopped Romney.

Total fail as an analogy. Romney didn't have a daddy and a brother who had already been President. As you will note, that is precisely why I said Jeb would be stopped too. But go ahead and make yourself miserable if you want to.

Yes, his family connections are a hindrance. They will also be a help.

The Republican primary is irrelevant in my state, so I see little need to jump on the bandwagon of any candidate. The state primary is held in the late spring. In both 2008 and 2012, the nominee was already decided weeks before my state primary was held.

The state primary is either an affirmation of the already-determined nominee or a protest vote -- neither of which mean anything.

If the increased Republican majority in the House dump Boehner in January 2015, I might have some renewed faith in the Republicans/Tea Party. If they don't, I certainly won't.

Bachmann and cohorts were close to showing some backbone in January 2013, but, in typical Republican fashion, they folded.

My last “hold your nose” vote was for Lamar! 6 years ago. And that was ONLY to try to keep the pres__ent from having a 60 vote majority.

He has stuck his thumb in my eye ever since. As far as I am concerned, if the dems keep the senate, it is no worse than having Lamar be the tie breaking vote.... he will fail us every time. I wrote in Joe Carr. I know he won’t win, but if Lamar squeaks by, instead of walking home easily, he will know why. I also hope it scares the bejesus out of Corker.

I'll say two things. First, the above statement does not mean the Mitt analogy was a good one. It remains irrelevant to this topic. Second, it is more or less only a help among the idiot conventional wisdom establishment types. It will be a major massive negative in the country as a whole.

I never said I wasn’t going to vote.

I’m just saying that it’s always “the most important election of our lives!!!!!!!!”

Excuse me if my memory of how the GOP uses their power is too clear to get excited. They are still relying on the “we’re not Democrats” angle to get elected. They’ve put nothing forward to get me all hot and bothered about voting FOR them.
