It wasn’t clear why Banks changed his mind, and Bratton cited only “personal and professional factors.” …

Who’s this William Bratton guy? I thought Tom Selleck was the commissioner. They keep showing him on t.v.

Quit on the eve of the promotion? I'd have to guess that there was some shady quid pro quo involved in accepting the job that he finally decided wasn't worth it, or that they figured he was already committed to the job, so they'd add or take something away at the last minute and he'd just go along with it.

If the NYPD was not so darned racist, they would have made him Police Commissioner, of course. Racists! Racists! Racists!

I could never watch that show. The Police Commissioner is a civilian. He doesn’t wear a uniform. Tom Selleck actually wears the uniform of the Chief of Department, which was the job of the guy in this article, Chief Banks.

That depends on how the newspapers wish to portray him. My guess is that he’ll be a positioned as a martyr on the front pages tomorrow.

I’ve heard that the position is a ‘civilian’ position that would take him out of the ‘day to day action of the dept.’

My first thought was that a skeleton peeked from the closet door and they decided it was best to close said door quietly and quickly...
