Scion prepares to return Bush name to Texas politics

AUSTIN - With the formalities of a lightly contested election almost out of the way, the stage is all but set for the arrival of the most anticipated political newcomer in recent Texas history.

The George P. Bush era appears ready to begin.

About a quarter-century after first speaking at the Republican National Convention, and two years after filing paperwork to run for a then-unspecified state position, the 38-year-old grandson and nephew of presidents is expected to easily be elected land commissioner Tuesday. And while he has maintained a relatively low profile this year, holding few public events and focusing on the details of the little-known job, there is no shortage of signs that he is gearing up for a career stretching far beyond the Texas General Land Office.

Bush has raised money in 10 states and Washington, D.C., over the past two years, according to recently filed disclosures that shed light on the national nature of his campaign. He has raised money a half dozen times in Miami, home of father Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor who is weighing his own presidential run.

If the younger Bush wins, he will enter office with roughly $3 million in his campaign account, more than any candidate other than gubernatorial front-runner Greg Abbott.

"These people are not giving all of that money because they think George P. Bush is really just an outstanding candidate for Texas land commissioner," said Russ Baker, author of the book "Family of Secrets" about the Bushes, adding that this year's campaign probably was carefully choreographed as the start of a career aimed at the White House

"I can guarantee you there's no grand master plan of where's he going to be in 10 years."

I'm going out on a limb here by saying that this is a bigger lie than Obama's "If you like your plan, you can keep it."

"I can guarantee you there's no grand master plan of where's he going to be in 10 years."

Sure. That's why the Bush machine is spending millions to buy Gee O Pee a 'starter office' for which he has absolutely no qualifications.

This just confirms my nightmare that I will live my entire adult life under presidents who are Democrats or named Bush.

When I was looking for a new car, I didn’t even consider getting a Scion. That was before I knew they had a connection to the Bush family.

Nothing. He's got a fake company set up for him to make it look like he's gainfully employed in the private sector. But that's it.

Oh, and the latinas like his looks. He's got a bit of Antonio Bandares about him but without even that modicum of talent. If his name wasn't Bush he'd be selling skinny jeans at the Gap.

My wife and I both deleted George P. Bush from our straight R ticket votes and hope a noticeable number of other Texas voters do likewise. We agree with what Barbara Bush said awhile back: “We’ve had enough Bushes.”

George W. claimed there were no WMD in Iraq after basing his war on the existence of WMD in Iraq. His claim of an accidental or wrong headed war infuriated Americans, regardless of party. It won’t be forgotten.

Jeb will lose if GOPe puts him on the ballot. So...Keep outta da bushes.
