Mitch McConnell willing to kill Obamacare with just 51 votes

Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., says he would be willing to repeal Obamacare with a simple majority if he takes over as majority leader in January, his spokesman told the Washington Examiner on Thursday.

The announcement comes just days before Tuesday's midterm congressional election, in which Republicans have a strong chance of seizing the upper chamber from the Democrats and putting the Kentucky senator in charge.

"Leader McConnell is and has always been committed to the full repeal of Obamacare, and he'll continue to lead efforts to repeal and replace it with patient-centered reforms that enable greater choice at lower costs. He knows it won't be easy, but he also believes that if Republicans are fortunate enough to take back the majority we’ll owe it to the American people to try through votes on full repeal, the bill’s most onerous provisions, and reconciliation,” McConnell spokesman Brian McGuire wrote in an emailed statement.

they could then begin passing bills that would eliminate parts of the bill, such as the medical device tax and insurance company subsidies.

Conversely, the House could start passing bills that fund everything but certain parts of ObolaCare. The Senate could pass them and Obama could veto them (shut down the government).

Isn’t it a hollow promise if Obama is not going to sign the repeal?

Yes. Regardless of 51 or 60 votes, Obama will still veto. If the GOP shuts down the government to do it, the GOP will be the losers as they've traditionally been.

The better option, politically, is do a death of a thousand cuts on it. Insert poison pill clauses onesie-twosie into popular bills that start driving it to collapse and start restoring the pre-Obamacare healthcare industry. Once it starts collapsing, build additional momentum by pointing out that Obamacare is just more evidence that big government solutions, in general, don't work. The goal actually isn't to kill ObamaCare - it's to collapse it in such a way that it is remembered for the next couple generations of massive failure stemming from massive government intrusion and overreach into the private sector.

More importantly, the GOP should pass the “nuclear option” on Day One of the new Senate and explain that it is “only fair” for the GOP to have benefit of the same rules the Democrats voted for themselves when they had power.

Not a good idea. The nuclear option only applied to filibusters on Presidential nominees, not legislation. In a closely held Senate (which is the best the GOP will get), we NEED that 60-vote threshold to prevent a**holes like McCain, Graham, etc, from crossing the aisle to put more Obama appointees on the bench.

WM: What good is a majority that doesn't represent you?

RL: It empowers conservatives from other states that do represent you.

How so? The conservatives get to be vocal in their dissatisfaction, but nothing conservative gets passed.

Completely agree!

Try to get the whole thing killed at once and when that fails take it apart piece by piece. Make obama veto everything and make the Rats support his veto. I don't know if you even need to shut down the govt and it might be counterproductive, because the media will twist who's fault it is and obama will never agree to repeal. However, if you keep passing bills that are popular and that cut the legs out of obamacare the support for Pubs will grow.

I could see Cruz, Lee and some other Pubs doing this but not McConnell.

How about ending the tax on medical devices?

How about ending the subsidies of insurance companies guaranteeing their profits?

How about tax reform that allows individuals to deduct the cost of their health insurance if it's not subsidized by the govt.

How about allowing individuals to buy health insurance across state lines?

How about ending all penalties to individuals and businesses that don't comply.

How about eliminating the IRS being involved in compliance.

I want to see the bill go to Obama, (Mr. Votes Present) and see if he will for once stick his neck out for anything. I bet he will let it sit until it passes by default. Hairy Reams has kept Obama from having to make any hard veto choices.

Everything you are saying about Obamacare is correct.

Expecting it to be overturned by a GOP lead by the GOP-E led by McConnell is just living in a fairyland.

He is saying what he thinks he needs to say to get re-elected and this behavior is no different to when he states he is against something and then votes a bill out of committee knowing full well it will pass in the Democrat Senate.

It is a deceitful, meaningless gesture by Mitch McConnell.

and Boehner doesn’t want to defund it either

In 2010 he said Obamacare was the law of the land and would be funded.

I am sure Senator Ted Cruz can be persuasive to the other Senators. I’m sure other Conservatives can be also, Senator Sessions, etc.

Let's face the truth:

McConnell is doing to Obamacare what Alison Grimes is doing to coal mining. They are both lying about their positions just to win the election.

and insurance company subsidies

You guys don't understand how the design of PPACA prevents this.

If you take out the money, it's not Obamacare that collapses, it's the whole system.

Obamacare is a parasite on the system. But poisoning the parasite kills the host.

McConnell would also block a Republican president after Obama from repealing Obamacare, or shutting the borders, or cutting the size and cost of government, or any, *any*, other conservative agenda items.

This is why he wants to give the Democrats in the senate back the power that was taken away from Republicans: so *they* will stop the conservative agenda, so he doesn’t have to.

The man is a menace. Even if we are so lucky for him to lose his seat, as always, he will not lift a finger to stop Obama or Harry Reid.

The only way for conservatives to finally start getting what they want is for Mitch McConnell to go. Other benefits of this is shaking the other RINOs in their boots, and maybe, just maybe, for conservatives to take over the next Republican National Convention, so we can have any other candidate for POTUS than Jeb Bush or Mitt Romney.

It would take 67 votes in the senate and 290+ in the house to kill it because Obozo will just veto anything that is sent to him by a Rep House/Senate.
