If there is a blood test which is accurate I have no trouble using it instead of a timed quarantine. But does the blood test check for the virus or the antibodies, how long does it take between exposure and when the disease can be detected and what is the relation between detection level and the ability to infect others.

For example, if it takes one week between infection and detectability and it can be detected one week before the infection has a chance (not likelihood, but chance above 0%) to spread, then blood tests without a quarantine would be good enough. But has Ebola been studied enough to determine when it is spreadable? Have we taken bodily fluids from someone who is suspected to be infected but still asymptomatic and tried to infect others to determine when someone is infectious? You can do that with nonfatal diseases, but I doubt Ebola has been studied that completely in human hosts so any claims that the asymptomatic are non-infectious is likely just a guess based on animal tests.

Ok, I just saw the local news TV and Gov. Paul LePage here in Maine has NOT backed off.

This morning a deal was being negotiated to allow this so-called nurse to go jogging or ride her bicycle, as long as she stayed at least three feet away from other people and avoided stores or other areas with larger numbers of people.

The deal fell apart, so now the governor is going to court to enforce the quarantine against nurse Wratched.

EV68 is far more contagious than Ebola, and has already killed more people in the US. A disease that affects a lot of people but has a low death rate is actually far more deadly than a disease that affects very few people and has a high death rate.
