Nurse Kaci Hickox says she won't obey Maine's Ebola quarantine: I won't be "bullied by politicians"

Nurse Kaci Hickox — who remains symptom-free after spending three days in a New Jersey isolation tent after flying home from Ebola-stricken West Africa — remains under quarantine at home in Maine, but for only another day, she tells TODAY's Matt Lauer.

“I don’t plan on sticking to the guidelines. I remain appalled by these home quarantine policies that have been forced upon me, even though I am in perfectly good health and feeling strong and have been this entire time completely symptom free,” said Hickox, who wouldn’t emerge from Maine’s 21-day voluntary quarantine until Nov. 10.

“I truly believe this policy is not scientifically nor constitutionally just, and so I’m not going to sit around and be bullied around by politicians and be forced to stay in my home when I am not a risk to the American public.”

Hickox, who pointed out that top health officials believe a quarantine is unnecessary unless someone develops symptoms, also said:

You seem to forget that at the Newark airport, she had a reading on a thermometer that read 101 F. Whether or not it was accurate is beside the question. It is what started the whole thing, along with her admission that she had just arrived from Sierra Leone, and identified herself as a nurse/healthcare care worker to Ebola patients while there. I can only imagine that what we’ve been watching of her behavior since she arrived back is but a microcosm of the attitude she displayed to the Customs and health agents. People don’t like to be screwed with, including customs agents. Karma’s a bitch, ain’t it.

With how frequently you post in her defense, I’m beginning to wonder if you are a friend or relative of hers. Either that, or you are someone who is as uncaring as she is. Her facade of caring about others is laid bare when she says she will not abide by the quarantine rules. Some nurse! It’s all a show to her, and maybe to you, too.

“She plans to return to Africa to help Ebola patients: “My work in Sierra Leone for four weeks was amazing and I feel privileged to have been able to fight this battle and I do plan on going back. It’s not just will I, it’s more of a when.””

Make it tomorrow with a one way ticket.....

There have been many people returning from the hot zone, and staying home for voluntary quarantine. There have even been some that were put into mandatory quarantine by court order.

None of them have been such whiners, nor have they threatened to sue.

The people who don’t stay home, and wind up with Ebola, have created a problem. The CDC has had to trace hundreds of people instead of a handful, Businesses loose money from closure and decontamination procedures, other people could be exposed and get sick too, and peace of mind for the people in the area is negatively impacted.

Selfish selfish selfish - she’s willing to bet other people’s lives that she will remain free of the disease.
Someone should give her a ribbon for voluntary service, and a kick in the butt for total lack of consideration for other people in the USA.

“By the time a person gets symptoms it’s too late. They are(because they have symptoms) infecting people.”

Can you cite a case in the US where a person who not directly treating an Ebola patient contracted Ebola?

i don’t mind being at home. would not like being taken from my home and placed in a govt building with others. that’s a death sentence for healthy people to pick it up while in quarantine from some who are sick.

govt will deny it, saying “look they had it all along.”

i won’t go anywhere with govt people. i am setup for dealing with diseases.

Have a doctor order her into quarantine. When she violates the “doctor’s order” revoke her nurses license.

Hi, I'm Kaci Hickox and I guarantee you with 100% confidence that I don't have Ebola.
In fact, I'm willing to bet your life on it.
F- you very much.

Correct answer in the post #1!

I’ll give you one that happened on West African soil, the cameraman for the NBC team. Not anywhere close to patients. They still don’t know how he got it.

In Texas, Gov. Perry understands that a person that does not have Ebola cannot transmit Ebola and should not be placed in a strict institutionalized quarantine.

The more I read about this pos the more I dislike her. She is so self centered and self entitled. SHe reminds me of evry trust fund red diaper doper baby I have ever met.

“I know best. I am the source of all wisdom. Aren’t I special because I went thousands of miles away to help those poor savages of the third world. I would never go to an American Indian reservation because that just isn’t cool enough. I am a wjite person strangled by my parents white guilt. Aren’t I special?” blah blah blah
