Houston announced Wednesday that it will withdraw the subpoenas of sermons from five pastors who publicly opposed an ordinance banning discrimination against gay and transgender residents, The Houston Chronicle reported.

"I didn't do this to satisfy them," Mayor Annise Parker said, referring to critics of the subpoenas. "I did it because it was not serving Houston."

"I did it because it was not serving Houston."

Horse hockey. IF you had wanted to serve Houston, then they never would have been issued in the first place. This is nothing more than withdraw and wait for a more opportune moment.

"I didn't do this to satisfy them," Mayor Annise Parker said, referring to critics of the subpoenas. "I did it because it was not serving Houston."

Sounds like a case of sour grapes to me.

Annise Parker is demonstrably unfit to hold any position of public trust and responsibility.

The defiant and unrepentant left-wing extremist mayor of Houston continues to defend her unconstitutional bullying.

(With props to King Henry for the sentence construction, but not for the call to action, which is only figurative): "Will no one rid me of this festering boil?"

I’m genuinely puzzled. Is there a shortage of tar and feathers in Texas?

If you wanted to serve Houston you'd resign!

What a hoot! And right before an election, too.

I imagine the legal challenges being prepared, along with the potential recall efforts being readied, have her scrambling not to "protect our Equal Rights Ordinance from repeal" but rather to protect her own sorry butt from winding up on a pitchfork.

When it comes to thinking and decision making, the parts below the waist don't that work well and hers seem to be a bit confused right from the start.

Sounds like Houston voters followed her example...D'oh!

You have to hand to the People of Tolerance and their Hateful approach to the Normal Community. This mayor became God in her own “mind” when she became Mayor”. She attempted to Assuage her hate on her favorite Hate Target, The Church.
What a Dope.
Impeachment is in Order, or Recall.

The ordinance in question is not an equal rights law - it is a SPECIAL rights law.

This article states the subpoena for “sermons” has been withdrawn, but isn’t clear if this withdrawal also applies to “speeches, presentations” or other working papers clergy might have used in researching and developing and writings related to this issue.

Has the city backed away only from demanding “sermons” or does this apply to all other documents?

“Has the city backed away only from demanding “sermons” or does this apply to all other documents?”

This is a very important question. There were reports last week that the word “sermon” had been removed from the subpoenas, but “emails, texts, speeches and all forms of communication with church members” were still being demanded.

Maybe I’m just an ignorant conservative, but wouldn’t sermons be included in “all forms of communication with church members:?
