I can’t wait to see it all. It may take them a while to get it all set up for visitors.

They can put it all in the basement.

What a wonderful thing to do. I hope all his artifacts have provenance and have value to the museum. Otherwise I would say it would his “jumble sale” and a big tax write off for him.

One should consider him a liberal who didn’t like Reagan nor Thatcher. (borrowing words here from a post back in Oct 2010 on FR). you can look it up for yourself if you are so inclined.

Seems he made a prior drop-off approx 4 yrs. ago.

not my type of people.

Basement?

An obscure movie reference. In Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Pee Wee's bicycle gets stolen. He is told by a fortune teller that it was taken to the basement of the Alamo, so he goes off on a cross country quest to get to the Alamo and get his bicycle back. When he finally makes it there, he is told by the tour guide that there is no basement, and she laughs at him.

Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure reference.

That movie featured the late, great Jan Hooks as an Alamo tour guide!

Was the back door to the place in the collection?

Whatever his politics, I don’t think they play in here.

Regarding write-offs, I don’t think he needs the money.

I see this as a fulfillment of his passion. He has enjoyed these for many years, and now wishes to send them home for all those who share is interest to enjoy.

Bless you Mr. Collins... from a Texan with deep roots in our history.

Like I stated before all well & good for Mr. Collins but I have reservations.

I’m surprised the SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION(S) didn’t publish any acquisitions from the collection.

After all, it is American History isn’t it?

I suppose. But it was Texas history first.

Smith -who- nian...???

Texas was an Independent Country during the period in which most of these artifacts became famous.

Washington... and hence the smithsonian... wants nothing to do with Texas at the present. Again, this is relevant to our history, and is of deep interest to those with interest in it.

Full disclosure: I am a great fan of Texas and Phil Collins’ music...and have no further agendas here. If you do, then... so be it.
