Is it time for Mississippi conservatives to teach the GOPe a lesson and vote for Travis Childers?
Red State ^ | 9/30/14 | gawken

Posted on 10/28/2014 8:52:51 AM PDT by Mozilla

First, I want to make one thing perfectly clear: It is the stated position of Erick and the mods that Red State advocates voting for the most conservative candidate in the primaries, and the Republican in the general election. I agree with that, and it is not my intent here to troll or disrupt. Anyone who has read my earlier diaries knows that. However, if those in charge feel this diary strays over the line, they should take it down.

People, this is MISSISSIPPI. This is totally different. What has happened here is an abomination. Everyone here knows what was done to Chris McDaniel in the primary and the run-off. The Republican establishment used the vilest, most despicable tactics to renominate a senile fool to the US Senate. They committed massive electoral fraud; they stole the election.

Three months ago, disgusted at what had just occurred in the Magnolia State, I posted a diary, actually, more of a diatribe:

“So, would it really be THAT bad if we don’t win the Senate in November?”

http://www.redstate.com/diary/gawken/2014/06/27/really-bad-dont-win-senate-november/

To my utter astonishment, it was promoted to the front page ( first time ever) and received 140 comments. The majority agreed with my sentiments, and shared my frustrations and disgust.

Since that time, McDaniel has lost several attempts to have the election overturned, and is awaiting the outcome of one last, albeit long-shot court ruling. State law requires that the ballots be printed very soon.

It now appears, less than 5 weeks out, that the Republicans will win control of the Senate. GOP seats in Kentucky and Georgia that were earlier deemed at risk now appear safe. It could well turn into a wave election for the GOP. As we get closer, the polls will be even more accurate. By mid October, we should be able to get a better sense of the size of the incoming Republican majority.

If Cochran is reelected, then the GOPe wins, big time. They literally will get away with stealing an election. And most likely, within a year, Cochran will retire, and Haley Barbour will hand pick his successor.

McDaniel and his supporters have declared war on the state GOPe, and vowed to dismantle the party establishment in 2015. I wish them success. It is long overdue.

But if indeed, this is a war, then why not let it begin now?

With a preemptive strike!

The GOP base, the Tea Party, social conservatives in Mississippi are highly organized and motivated. McDaniel’s primary campaign demonstrated that.

So, if we’re some ten days from election day, and all the polls look good, then it’s easy to use the internet and social media to get the message out to McDaniel’s supporters:

1. Vote for Childers, or

2. Don’t vote for any senate candidate.

That should be more than enough to elect Childers.

I suspect Childers will be a far more moderate senator..I can’t see him running to do Reid’s or Schumer’s bidding.

Haley Barbour awoke a sleeping giant. Time to pay the piper!

And I would remind all of you that if the GOP establishment gets away with this, they’ll pull out all the stops to keep a real conservative from getting nominated for the White House. Why do you think we are all of a sudden hearing all this talk about more Mitt?

For a multitude of reasons, it’s time to put Cochran out to pasture, even if doing so requires electing a Democrat.

Well I think the GOP Establishment needs to be taught a lesson and what better way to do it than against Thad Cochran.

I get that sentiment, but I hope we can afford to lose Mississippi because the fraud to get Cochran over the line in the primary was uncalled for.

Thats why I’d vote for McConnell in KY. He and Bevins had a standup fight. Bevins was a poor candidate. He lost. Time for Conservaties there to hold their noses and pull the Red lever, even if McConnell is an a$$hole for making that “crush the Tea Party” comment and raised money for Cochrane.

You obviously have a fatal case of Battered Wife Syndrome.

I'm done being used by liberals with an 'R' after their name for my vote.

2008 was my last time 'holding my nose'. The fruits and facts of the GOP Ruling Class are self-evident to anyone who is honest. Hell, McConnell has already told us that he intends to surrender power back to Democrats once he is made majority Leader. They already told us they intend to vote for next year's budget in advance BEFORE the new congress is seated so as to fund Obama's agenda and take budget battles off the table so they can 'govern'.

Cochran would never have stolen that election were it not for McConnell and the GOP Ruling Class. Holding my nose is not an option, because to do so betrays every principle I hold myself to.

I'm writing in a Conservative. I'll stand on principle even if I am left standing alone.

Wide is the gate to destruction, narrow is the path to what is right.

“Seriously”?

Are you kidding? People on this thread are considering voting for a Democrat to “send a message”, thus empowering the monsterous evil known as Obama/Clinton/Reid and you challenge me?

Like I said FR USED to be full of thoughtful and intelligent comments.

GO AHEAD and send all the “messages” you want. Vote for WHOEVER you want. By your logic, “ These people only want your vote. .......you have no hold over them.”, so what difference does it make? If that is really true, casting a vote is a pointless and powerless gesture.

Voting enables a tyrannical and out of constitutional bounds government to claim legitimacy. That's the difference "the vote" makes.

Mark Twain, "If voting made any difference they wouldn't let us do it."

Ambrose Bierce, "VOTE, n. The instrument and symbol of a freeman's power to make a fool of himself and a wreck of his country."

If that is really true, casting a vote is a pointless and powerless gesture.

If you can be absolutely relied upon to vote for the candidate of a particular party, regardless of the particular candidate's behavior or the specifics of the party platform ...

then you're quite right. Casting a vote IS a pointless and powerless gesture.

People talk about "holding the politician's feet to the fire".

What does that mean? Writing letters, sending FAXes, making phone calls?

Horsecrap.

Unless you can credibly withold from the politician something he wants from you, you have no power over him.

Let us take an example:

I live in West Virginia. I have almost no power over the detestable Sen. Joe Manchin. He's a democrat. He will NEVER get my vote. If he can be made to think I might vote for him, that might give my letters etc some weight ... but the fact remains that he will NEVER get my vote.

Shelley Moore Capito is currently running for the other Senate seat. What power have my letters etc? That of my vote. Nothing more. Being a Republican, there's at least the possibility that I might vote for her. But if I will definitely vote for her, regardless of what she does, my letters etc. have no power. She can do anything she wants, without the possibility of losing my vote.

I can only "hold her feet to the fire" if I can credibly threaten to withhold my vote.

>>Anything that would keep Harry Reid in power is WRONG.<<

It’s much worse than just “wrong.” A vote for any Democrat is a vote to destroy America. Period.

That was well stated and -oh-so-true.

I believe we are past the point of any of our votes actually having power over the Oligarchy in Washington.

As has been stated by staunch Conservatives (I even heard Mark Levin make this statement) Washington is not going to reform itself, nor will it allow itself to be reformed by the very people they rule. That is the fact of where we have arrived, and it was a slow incremental ride until the last few years where the masks have come off and we have near-single party rule.

They continue to demonstrate contempt for their constituencies, lecturing us that we do not know what is good for us and nearly unanimously governing against the will of the people.

I contend that politicians who hold their base in contempt and are not afraid of losing by declaring war on the same, know that our votes no longer matter or have any power in deciding their office. Otherwise they would not dare to do as McConnell and the GOP Establishment has done to Conservatives.

>> I’ve often wondered what Chris McDaniel and his ardent supporters are going to do in the General Election <<

I believe one of Chris's most prominent supporters, state Sen. Melanie Sojourner, has said publicly that she will vote for Childers.

If the reports about her statement are true, it seems she will technically be in violation of a Mississippi statute, which says any primary voter must intend support that primary's party nominee in the general election.

Of course, the law can never be enforced. But it's perhaps ironic that other McDaniel supporters have cited the very same statute, saying blacks should not have been allowed to vote in the Republican primary, because everybody knows that 90% of blacks will vote for the Dhimmi in the general election.

Anyway, this thread is probably a waste of bandwidth, since -- love him or hate him -- Cochran will win the general hands down.

Obama thanks you and all the other “RINO at any cost regardless of the fact they vote WITH Dems to push amnesty, the global warming hoax, increased federal spending without accountability, slashing of the military budget (Paul Ryan), contant continuing resolutions with no real cuts in anything (McConnell, Boehner), support Common Core (unless it’s an election year like Lamar!), etc.”

Obama and Reid thank you.

Like I've done told you before, that Party Hack intimidation tactic no longer has any pull or power, it just showcases that you are nothing but a stormtrooper for the GOPe.

If anything, Obama and Reid are far more thankful for the zero-oppositon GOP Establishment leadership and their lackeys you insist we vote for than by any of us Conservatives refusing to vote for the Establishment hack and instead vote third party or writing in a Conservative.

To: Eccl 10:2; All
I have to believe that many of these “teach the GOPe a lesson by getting Liberal Democrats elected” posters here are paid plants of the Tides Foundation.

OK, Eccl 10:2 (church dude); what does the Bible say about judging? Why don't you vote your conscience and let everyone else vote their conscience? You could just stop slandering people with whom you disagree and do what your Tagline says: "Trust God". Oh, sorry, I forgot that for you church people there's a difference in preaching it and living it.

You are not voting for Cochran-—you are voting to get rid of Harry Reid as the leader of the Senate.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

BULLSHIT! And replace him with another low-life scumbag named Mitch McConnell. If you wouldn’t make statements like that, people wouldn’t know just how ignorant you really are.
