Weeks after first steps, girl will lose limbs to meningitis

It was a landmark moment in her life and should have been one of her family’s most precious memories. But Harmonie-Rose Allen’s first steps are tinged with sadness for her parents. Just weeks after starting to walk, their daughter is to lose all of her limbs to meningitis. Harmonie-Rose Allen is currently in hospital facing amputation of both her arms and legs after she contracted meningitis. Harmonie-Rose Allen is currently in hospital facing amputation of both her arms and legs after she contracted meningitis. The 11-month-old is on a life support machine in hospital, suffering what doctors said is one of the worst cases of the deadly condition they have seen. Despite initially being given just a 10 per cent chance of survival, Harmonie-Rose is expected to live – but her arms and legs must be amputated. The tragedy comes just weeks after she took her first tentative steps with a baby walker. Family and friends in her home city of Bath, Somerset, are now hoping to raise more than £40,000 to pay for prosthetic limbs that will enable her to live as normal a life as possible. Harmonie-Rose’s aunt Hannah Hall, 31, said doctors did not think her niece would pull through, adding: ‘The family feel like Harmonie-Rose’s whole life has been robbed.’ The baby’s parents Freya Hall, 20, and Ross Allen first noticed something was wrong on September 27, when she woke in the night coughing. Mr Allen, a customer service worker, said: ‘She had been a little bit under the weather all week. But we just assumed it was a cold and because she was teething we put it down to that as well'.

This little girl went to the hospital in Bath, UK, twice and was sent home. The third trip, she was finally diagnosed with meningitis at a different hospital. Please pray that America wakes up and throws off Government Healthcare. Republicans, please come up with a viable alternative!

She’ll have real, 3D printed limbs by high school or college, I predict.

Incredibly heartbreaking. I pray technology will soon give Harmonie working arms and legs; and strength for her parents.

Heart-wrenching story. Thumbs up to the daily mail for another fine story.

I actually came to know someone in England over the summer and there was some kid over there with a health problem that was going to cost a whole lot of money, I forget what it was now but because of the daily mail story, a whole bunch of people including a well-off anonymous donor chipped in to help the tyke. So I’m honest in saying the DM does some good things.

Actually, by that time, she could possibly actually have limbs regenerated by that time.

We are seriously that close to being able to do this.

The final comment on the story said that there is a vaccine, but the government has been arguing about the cost. Anybody know if that is true? Yes, socialized medicine is an abomination that causes untold misery. Poor little girl. What a way to start out in life.

There are vaccines for meningitis, I made sure my daughter had it before she went to college as that is a typical situation to contract this very, very bad disease.

But I’ve never heard of them being given to infants.

I think there may be different types of meningitis.

I’ve known 3 people who had it.

One is actually a friend of my kid. He got it when he was about 3 and it made him deaf. After reading this post I’m thinking he was very lucky.

And I knew 2 women who got it as adults. It was a close call with both of them, but they survived without any permanent damage.

Yes, I knew about the vaccine given to teenagers and college students, but I have not heard of one for infants, either. A few years ago, a 5-year-old boy had a sever case and lost his limbs and part of his face to the disease. I wonder why the vaccine isn’t given to younger kids?

A relative of mine had a friend, an adult, who had it, was not correctly diagnosed at the ER, and died. It is a horrible, scary disease.

After the joy of her first steps, she will awaken to find that her arms and legs have been taken from her. Praying now that the parents will find a way to explain to their 11-month-old daughter.

I hope science truly will be able to generate new, real, working body parts for patients very soon.

I survived meningitis and encephalitis at the same time. Can’t believe I’m alive and well. No permanent damage...that I know of.

This is happening in America already. My under 6 month old grand daughter was taken to the hospital with a high fever, all they tested for was strep throat. She had Spinal Meningitis, thank God her grandma made her daughter take her to another hospital. She almost DIED.

My 15 year old granddaughter was given a vaccine in school, until then she was a perfectly healthy, active child. Into gymnastic ribbons, snowboarding, skiing, horse back riding. A few weeks later she has RA, Fibromyalgia and several other autoimmunes. Suspect the vaccine is Gardasil. She is NOT sexually active, her mom keeps her to busy with sports for that and takes her every where.

The day our daughter’s life changed

26 DEATHS GARDASIL

Makes you wonder what more they are hiding from us?

So sorry to hear about your granddaughters and their troubles. I have worked in the cancer detection field for decades. I wouldn’t give any daughter of mine Gardasil. It was tested on mid-20s women in France. No long term effects ever studied as the studies are too new. Prayers that your lovely young lady will recover from her side effects soon.

Then you know RA is not curable. They can only treat the symptoms with Humeria which is a very nasty drug.

Fibromyalgia is a life long disease too. Lyrica an epileptic drug is HORRID too. I’ve had FMS 30 yrs, had every drug, and reacted badly to them all. Except 10 mg Valium AM/PM. And getting my thyroid under an ENDO’s control instead of a undereducated PCP’s.

Sorry, I did not know that. I am in cancer detection not chronic diseases. Prayers for relief for your granddaughter.
