South Florida's Early Voting Weekend is a warning sign for Charlie Crist
Real Clear Politics ^

Saturday and Sunday marked the first chance for voters to head to the early voting polls on a weekend, a time when Democrats could really show in force and put a big dent in Republicans’ lead in casting pre-Election Day ballots.

But there was no huge surge in Democrat-rich Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Intriguingly in the three counties, the total number of people who early voted Saturday was greater than Sunday – the day when black voters were expected to have the first of two “Souls to the Polls” voting events after church.

Some Democrats are starting to panic. It’s an understandable feeling. Mid-term election turnout in the big three urban counties is historically abysmal, which is a major reason why Republicans hold every statewide elected office but one.

This is a warning sign for Democrat Charlie Crist.

“This is horrible,” one South Florida consultant told me. Crist should be concerned. And some of his supporters are.

Scott’s deputy campaign manager, Tim Saler, issued a campaign memo that drew a parallel with 2012, when Democrats did far better:

On this same day in 2012, Democrats out-voted Republicans by 35,000 votes. We saw the same thing during the 2008 Obama campaign, a 35,000-vote lead by Democrats over Republicans.

Overall, Republicans now lead Democrats in early voting by a little less than 2,000 votes. At this time in the 2012 campaign, Republicans trailed in early voting by 40,000 votes, or 13 points.

If I'm doing the math correctly, this year's first weekend turn-out is 37,000 votes better, for our team, than 2008 and 2012. The GOP "Voter Count" is up 2,000 votes instead of being down 35,000 in those two Election Years of '08 and '12.

This is good news. I can't stand the "Orange Man". And I use the term "Man" loosely.

we need to see the size and makeup of the crowds for each candidate.

Crist is notorious for using consultants and not putting in his own ground time.

Does anyone have any campaign crowd pictures?

scrotum sweat boy’s absolute high water mark was in 2007 when he was a republican — 52%. that’s his ceiling when he gets into the game. most of the republicans aren’t going to support him because he’s a turncoat, and most democrats don’t want to vote for him for the same reason.

if it wasn’t the fact that governor whats-his-face is a genuinely awful candidate, crist would be getting blown out.

‘This is a warning sign for Democrat Charlie Crist.’

Let it be so. Scott is not so hot, but Crist is almost incalculably worse.

It does sound horrible... how can RATS cheat their way out of these kind of numbers?

Imagine if Ebola had surfaced in those three counties a month ago.

I still don’t understand why we have early voting. Have it on election day, if you care that much, you’ll make it to the polls.

Funny you should say that. We must get the word out:

It was announced that to prevent long lines, and waits, this Election year, as was the case in 2012, the Florida Department of Elections, is asking that Republicans vote on November 4th and Democrats Vote on November 5th. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

I think the RAT tactic now is to try to scare their voters to the polls. All these reports may be true, but they want to stay the underdog..get the votes within the zone and then harvest the fraudulent votes.

Souls to the Polls

Maybe the Korean churches in FL can organize an early voting campaign for next Sunday, Seouls to the Polls. When the lines get long, the people can Incheon.

I wouldn’t care how I felt about Rick Scott, I would never vote for Crist, he’s just an embarrassement.

Crist must be on Cialis. He seems to attract much younger trophy wives. Just like on the commercial.
