I had a shortwave radio in the 70’s.Isn't shortwave pretty much dead now that one can listen to Voice of America, the BBC,Radio Australia, etc on their laptops?

I listen to SW on websdr, but I’ve asked for a multi-band radio for Christmas.

It has been dying.
This marks a resurgence.

The thing that I think makes SW valuable is you can get it anywhere.

Yer internet craps out, yer **** outta luck.

AM? hell, you can get that in bomb shelters and steel buildings.

Try that with yer iPHONE.

Sure, shortwave is dead. The internet takes care of all that. Especially now that ICAAN is controlled by who knows.

This sounds interesting and has potential, as long as it doesn't turn out to be a SW version of PBS with 60% advertising thrown in.

Global 24 represents another step in the long overdue commercialization of shortwave radio

I reckon that 'feature' would depend on who you ask, ehh ?

I should be intersting.
The airwaves are wide open and if we do not stake them out they will go away to commercialization one way or the other.

These are basically public bands.

Hey if they gotta run some commercials to pay for power I am OK with that.

As of now WBCQ is the last warrior out there and they depend on donations

This is all well and good, but their website is quite vague about what kind of English language programming will be on it.

Will it be ideologically conservative? Liberal? Religious?

One needs to know these things before one decides to spend their precious time listening to something.

It’s ‘commercial’.

Were it not just another outlet reinforcing the leftist zeitgeist, it would be trumpeting that fact searching for a built-in audience.

I have an old ICF SW-77.

Would love to have one of their CRF 330k models.

It is supposed to be general content.
News/entertainment. Not sure of political bent.

It will not be religious.
