Has Alison Lundergan Grimes pulled even with Mitch McConnell in Kentucky?
Christian Science Monitor ^ | Octobe 22, 2014

Wednesday Senator McConnell’s race against Democratic opponent Alison Lundergan Grimes looks a bit tighter than it did a few days ago, when we suggested that McConnell might begin measuring for drapes in the Majority Office.

For one thing, the latest survey of the Kentucky contest finds McConnell and state Secretary of State Grimes virtually tied. The Bluegrass Poll puts McConnell at 44 percent, and Grimes at 43, with 5 percent for a third party candidate and 8 percent undecided.

For another, the Democratic Party and the Grimes campaign are throwing money at ads in what looks like a last-month push to prevail.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee had previously pulled resources from Kentucky to spend elsewhere. But now the party group is jumping back in, and has reserved $650,000 in ad air time after seeing the latest poll numbers, according to Politico.

Grimes herself has released a scathing new negative ad that charges McConnell will “say anything” to get reelected. It features secretly recorded audio of the incumbent telling wealthy donors he’ll oppose a minimum wage hike and other economic proposals backed by Democrats. (Full disclosure: a Christian Science Monitor opinion piece flashes on screen in this ad.)

Despite all this, we still think McConnell is likely to win reelection. That’s what the election fundamentals – and many forecasters – continue to say.

The Bluegrass Poll itself has slid toward the GOP. A month ago it had Grimes up by two points. Now, it is McConnell by one.

But, McConnell should keep that tape measure around. Just in case.

I wouldn’t shed a single tear if McCockle had to join Eric Cantor’s law firm.

McConnell will win, not that I am a great fan. But even less of a fan of Grimes, who will 100% of whatever Obama wants. The latest internal poll has McConnell up 49-41. Grimes internal had it tied. Probably somewhere McConnell will win 4-5 points.

If the GOPe has to lose a seat, McConnell’s would be the best one, since the cause would be losing his base.

You cannot compare polling org to a different polling org. This is the most telling statement.

Wouldn’t it be great if the Republicans took the Senate and McConnell lost?

Where was the CSM article when a poll had McConnel up by 8.

Btw, the last BGP had Grimes up by 4, meaning Grimes has actually lost ground.

I am no fan of MM but I refuse to spew leftest rubble.

The DSCC is back in Kentucky because the race has tightened. It’s still McConnell’s race to lose.

Best of all possible worlds….The Republicans win the Senate and McConnell loses his seat. That would teach the GOPe where their bread is buttered.

Kentucky is a fairly large coal producing state....

A vote for Grimes is a vote to do Reid’s bidding and not reign in the EPA abusive new regulations....

That alone should gave him at least a few silent majority voting percentages...

No the best would be if that feckless, duplicitous, treacherous, backstabbing Cork sucker Lindsey Graham lost.

The Bluegrass poll has been the most favorable to Grimes. I think something like only four polls have shown her ahead at any point in the race, and three of them were Bluegrass. The fact that she’s now trailing in the most-favorable-to-her poll is a bad sign.
