The head of Ottawa's parliamentary security is being hailed as a hero after he reportedly shot and killed a suspected male gunman who was trying to enter the caucus rooms.

Kevin Vickers, Parliament Hill's sergeant-at-arms and former member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, shot and killed the suspect, Veterans Affairs Minister Julian Fantino told the Toronto Sun.

"All the details are not in, but the sergeant-at-arms, a former Mountie, is the one that engaged the gunman, or one of them at least, and stopped this," Fantino said. "He did a great job and, from what I know, shot the gunman and he is now deceased."

Vickers, a 57-year-old New Brunswick native, was appointed sergeant-at-arms in the House of Commons in 2006. Before that, Vickers, a 29-year veteran of the RCMP, served as director of security operations for the House of Commons, providing security services for dignitaries, including Prince Andrew and members of the Canadian royal family.

I know it's been a dark day for the Canadian gov't but it is refreshing to read about a man with such honor, courage and sense of duty to his country and countrymen.

Cheers for Sergeant-at-Arms Kevin Vickers!

Queen Elizabeth II is Queen (and Head of State) of Canada, and 15 other nations in the Realm (Including the UK). Here’s her complete title, in her capacity as Canada’s Queen:

“Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom, Canada and Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith”

I should have added that Canada is a “constitutional Monarchy”; not a republic, like the U.S.A.

The first part of the guy’s last name is Algerian, “Zehaf-Bibeau”. Likely his mother was Algerian and married a French Canadian, not an uncommon occurrence. Whether he knew the muslim-convert “hit and run” killer from Monday remains to be determined.

I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but I think I’m starting to see a pattern.

Good thing he was armed and not just a figurehead. On the other hand, Canada has a lot to learn about (aboot) security.

second thought, your right, that front sight is before 94. Could be a .44 or .357, etc.

mine is 32.20, originally bought by my great grandfather circa 1914. He used it to apprehend escaped prisoners in East Texas.

I have had possession of it since 1958 or 56 years which is longer than my grandfather had possession of it. I intend to give it to my son soon.

.......are you identifying the gun as a 30.30 Winchester 94?

.......I don’t know enough to come to that conclusion.

Lucky for Kevin Vickers he didn’t do this in America. If it had Obama would have Holder working as hard as he could to have Vickers indicted.
