Atlanta — Two fresh sightings of alleged sniper Eric Frein has resulted in more closed public schools in northern Pennsylvania and a shift in a massive manhunt to near where Mr. Frein went to high school – and where he was a member of the high school rifle team.

Seems to me that, if this were to have happened 100+ years ago, a posse consisting of local militia types would have been formed to track him down. Now, they are bringing in all militarized law enforcement who are unfamiliar with the area. I know, I'm being an armchair critic here, but this is just an observation I had based on study of history.

It would not surprise me at all if Frein were to have already fled to Costa Rica or some place like that. This whole nonsense of the sightings is just an excuse to keep a de facto state of martial law in place.

This article, and the headline in particular, are almost celebrating Frein. The “Wilderness Ninja” outfoxed the police, like Robin Hood or some other popular figure. If he’s reading this, its only fueling his ego.

My bet is that he’s been dead almost from the beginning.

Why would they forecast their strategy to a crafty fugitive? Seems they can warn the public through means that don’t need to be on the non-stop blaring cable news cycle.

I assumed because it was a cop he shot they would really be on top of this search. It’s becoming embarrassing.

Well, familiar with the area or not, if they follow the basic protocols for a manhunt, they should be able to flush him out. That strategy doesn’t rely on the people using it to be familiar with the area, they just have to stick to the plan.

Still, I don’t see why they can’t use technology like FLIR cameras on helicopters to find him. Perhaps he planned for that and has some heat-reflective gear.

Cops aere pulling millions of dollars in overtime out of this. They'll keep it up as long as the government keeps paying for it.

If he really did plan it for all that time I wouldn’t be surprised if he had an egress plan as well. Canada?

Its small game and archery hunting season in PA. The sighings are more than likely hunters. He is long gone.

The search is probably on for some homeless guy they can say is he.

This is a good ‘real world’ example of how one man can keep “100’S” of law enforcement people tied up in one area. just imagine what would be occurring in a SHTF or even CWII situation. There just isn’t enough LEO personnel available to handle it all.

The cop killer is making a laughing stock of the PD. It looks more like a modern day version of the “Roadrunner”! It would be interesting to see if the PD are making overtime on this case.

basic protocols for a manhunt

Seems to me that's working out about as well as basic rules of engagement worked against the guerilla warfare tactics of the militia a couple hundred years ago.

Ever think this guy has had years to construct a well fortified and stocked underground shelter? The government has many underground facilities that are so well concealed that no one would ever suspect its existence. The only way this guy will come out is when Obama gives him a pardon

I would hope that, in one of those situations, most LEO would be on our side. I think we would have to worry more about foreign troops.

“..just imagine what would be occurring in a SHTF or even CWII situation...”

They are imagining it. That’s why they’re hell-bent on getting him.

It’s giving them nightmares.

Exactly, one man holding down 1,000 cops. What if it were 50 or 100 or one million?

I suspect if he wanted to kill more cops he could have easily done so already. If he has home field advantage as the cops and media claim I would expect him to egress out and change his appearance enough to just disappear into the masses.
