Why AP isn’t moving stories for every suspected Ebola case
Poynter ^ | Oct. 17, 2014 | Kristen Hare

On Friday, the Associated Press posted an advisory to editors about suspected cases of Ebola, which they’re hearing of more and more.

“The AP has exercised caution in reporting these cases and will continue to do so,” the advisory reads.

Here’s the rest:

Most of these suspected cases turn out to be negative. Our bureaus monitor them, but we have not been moving stories or imagery simply because a doctor suspects Ebola and routine precautions are taken while the patient is tested. To report such a case, we look for a solid source saying Ebola is suspected and some sense the case has caused serious disruption or reaction. Are buildings being closed and substantial numbers of people being evacuated or isolated? Is a plane being diverted? Is the suspected case closely related to another, confirmed Ebola case?

When we do report a suspected case, we will seek to keep our stories brief and in perspective.

As predicted they are ADMITTING they can’t control our borders

I think it's the opposite...if they show that they can and will keep Ebola prone people out then it becomes obvious that they can keep illegals down south out. Doing it for one class proves it can be done for any.

Obama utterly failed in his most basic responsibility, to keep America safe. He is the Chief Executive in charge. Ebola was a known threat. His policies allowed it to come to the US. Obama cannot hide behind congress, or behind some bureaucrat. Obama owns this abject failure. May his soul burn in hell.

AP has decided to continue our policy of only publishing stories that are politically useful to liberals.

The No New Cases in Five Days story tells me that they have put the hard core info lockdown in place 5 days ago. And yes, we were getting the slow play lockdown prior to that.

Obama can never fail. One week before the election he will state there is not a smidgen of Ebola on America. And the idiots who vote for the Oligarchy will believe that.

OK, then suspected cases should be confirmed in anywhere from 2 to 7 days.

“To report such a case, we look for a solid source saying Ebola is suspected and some sense... [SNIP]”

What are solid sources? The CDC? THe average physician doesn’t do many press conferences about their patients. IF that’s an MSM hint that the source has to be .gov or CDC or some other controlled organization, then the MSM can decline to report quite a bit because concerned citizens don’t count and HIPPA and ...

She should not be taking off her own PE. That should be done by the standby team.

There are better glove taping techniques to prevent liquid from running under the glove.

I was disappointed that Drudge even repeated that tripe.

Well, if things are not what they say (and I don't believe for ONE millisecond they are) they will eventually not be able to keep a lid on it.

But, I think they are just trying to get through stealing the election anyway.

Say, whatever did happen to the lady from the Ivy apartments who was "feverish" on the Dart?? That was Saturday, it somehow, got through the censors.

It seems that this is simply responsible journalism. Do we really want screaming headlines every time someone vomits or has a fever? Over-sensationalizing these false alarms is counterproductive. Glad to hear some amount of vetting is going on.

we will seek to keep our stories brief and in perspectiveThe new mouthpiece can't attend Ebola meetings but he sure can dictate to the press. The only way the next couple dozen case are getting reported will be by rumor or third rate news sources.

In the US, it takes 2 days. In other countries, it takes 12 hours.

13% don’t develop the fever. With asprin, more of the 150 arriving on our shores will slip past TSA with no fever. Also 30-50% go hemorrhagic with the typical Ebola but only 18% do with this strain.

Last month, Ft. Detrick was listed as on of the few Leel 4 Units. The past week or so, since obola announced our troops were being to the hot zone, there has been msm silence on that facility. Smells like we’re supposed to forget those beds so the military can use those for when our troops start coming back with it. Make that our troops will be treated in Liberia while the big mucky mucks will be brought Ft. Detrick.

It's not just the media.

Actor Is Self-Monitoring For Ebola Symptoms

[Blind Gossip] This award-winning comic actor is probably best known for a character he played on a popular 1970s television show.

He was a passenger on the same plane as the Ebola-infected nurse from Texas. He is currently under voluntary quarantine at home and is self-monitoring to make sure that he shows no symptoms of the disease.

While other passengers have disclosed on social media that they were on the flight as the nurse, or flew on the same plane after her, our actor has not. Given that he is a performer who loves attention and is always detailing his life on Twitter to his many follower, it’s interesting that he has been silent about this. Is it because he is an avid Obama supporter and doesn’t want to do anything that might cause people to lose confidence in the President?

My wife, who works in Emergency Services Management for her hospital tells me the test is a two step process. The first one takes about four hours. It is a preliminary test. If that tests positive, they send the sample to the CDC Lab. They perform the next test which takes about a day.

All in all, one of the things folks are working on is a speedy test—less than an hour. You can keep someone sitting in isolation for an hour. If you have to keep them there four hours, it really complicates the process. Especially the isolation part...
