Pope Francis has closed an assembly of Catholic bishops that revealed deep divisions on how to respond to homosexuality and divorce, saying on Sunday the Church should not be afraid of change and new challenges.

Francis, who has said he wants a more merciful and less rigid Church, made his comments in a sermon to some 70,000 people in St. Peter's Square for the ceremonial closing of a two-week assembly, known as a synod.

“Catholics (and I am not a Catholic) you have a heretic leading you.”

Catholics (and I am a Catholic) we have a heretic “leading us”. But heresy nullifies a papacy. Is not lack of a proper pope part of the fulfullment of the end times prophecy regarding “obomination of desolation”?

The Vatican has tons and tons of historical, theological, scientific, and art. Much of which has never, and will never be seen by 99.9% of humanity. At least that is what people have been led to believe.

Ecclesiastes 1:9. There is nothing new under the sun.

Was going to say, things can only be new to particular individuals.

in Idaho, I believe, where two ordained ministers have been told they are going to be forced to perform homosexual weddings under threat of jail time for not doing it.

Did the articles say "ordained"? I looked for that word and didn't find it, I could have missed it though. There's a big difference between "ordained" and "licensed" ministers.

You’re absolutely right, I believe many in the Catholic Church are vain, and many worship Mary. Many praise her and worship images and sculptures like she is God. I believe that the Vatican accumulates wealth, which could all be used for millions of suffering Catholics all over the world but instead the money is used on more gaudy items, statues, funny looking hats and robes adorned with precious ore. Much of the money is used for good, but much goes to useless material garbage. I believe the Vatican also has many historical and theological texts that people like you and me will never read. I can keep going.

But I am not anti-Catholic. I am anti-CINO, and definitely anti-”con-men that use Catholicism for power/money/etc.” I do not identify with Catholics, I identify with Christians, and believe the only way to salvation is through Jesus Christ alone. Confessing your sins to a priest who may or may not be a true Catholic to save your soul is disagreeable with my views on salvation, Jesus, the Bible, and God. My beliefs come from my grandparents, who are devout Christians. I have not in my short time on Earth met anyone that come close to their love for God, and their devotion to Jesus Christ. They are truly blessed.

I am sorry that you feel this way, but the Vatican is corrupt. That they would even CONSIDER homosexuality tolerable is proof of it.

Prove to me that the Vatican is not corrupt. Like you say. I will consider your side of the argument and form a new opinion. But don’t just come out and say NOPE, NOPE, NOPE.
For clarification....I’m saying the VATICAN is corrupt. If you consider the Vatican the Catholic Church then I guess I am saying that the Catholic Church is corrupt. I didn’t say ALL CATHOLICS ARE CORRUPT. But I certainly see a lot of evidence that its leaders are. Much like Obama is corrupt. Doesn’t mean Americans are corrupt.

Well, here is an article ABOUT the Pope.

I included Humanae Vitae and a piece from the Natl Catholic Register

Care to read any of those? Or are you like the many anti Catholics here ,- refusing to read any thing about or by Catholics? FR gives you that pass. Catholicism is the one gene you don’t Jane to read on before making a snarky comment. Pile on. We. Can take it

That statement has been widely taken out of context.

It refers to the nature of the sinner, not the behavior.

Praying to a saint or mary isn’t going to help you either....

And He came and took the book out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. When He had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. -The Bible

Sola Scriptura? Not in the Bible.

You aren’t even trying. I’m not closed minded and stubborn enough to admit I’m wrong. You aren’t willing to try, which means you cannot teach me. Telling me I’m wrong isn’t going to change my mind.

You can pray to Mary all you want, but she can’t hear you. She is not God. Pray to Jesus for me instead. Please.

“I am the way, the truth, the life.” - Jesus (not Mary)
“The only way to the Father is through me.” - Jesus (not Mary)

I’m afraid you are the one that has been lied to FRiend. I do not LOVE LIES. But show me evidence and I will gladly reconsider. The Bible is a source I consider legitimate. If I am missing something, inform me. Or do Catholics not teach their faith? It will take a lot more then insults to change years of perspective. But my mind is fertile, plant a seed.

I was raised in a UCC church before (long before) it went apostate.

One of the slogans that the nest of heretics and vipers now in charge of the UCC use to justify their behavior is "God is still speaking" (to them, presumably).

What it means is "we can change scripture and The Institutes of the Christian Religion at will".

Did Francis ever attend a UCC church when he was in Argentina? This all sounds awfully familiar.

Someone here on FR said it. The problem is the “church”...there is nothing wrong with the religion or belief system. I’ve thought a lot about that as a former Episcopalian. The church changed and let me down, I thought my faith had failed...but it didn’t. Catholics are now seeing what we experienced when Gene Robinson was approved. If the libs get a toe hold, you might as well give up, like a snake bite’s poison, it spreads and kills. Time to be a religious prepper...you need a bug out bag and a plan. Don’t forget to pack your prayer book.

The usual suspects are attempting to turn Catholics into mormons with a Latin accent.
There is one true church. It was founded upon the rock, chosen by Christ. Anything else is heresy.
From the second worse “disgruntled” employee to this day. Each attempting to chip away at the foundations of the one true church.

What the hell does "God is not afraid of new things" even mean? How can something be new to God?

This Pope's starting to tick me off.
