New Iraqi Defense Minister Warns Kurds

New Iraqi defense minister Khaled al-Obeidi has delivered his first official speech, insisting that the Kurdistan Region must hand back terrorists that have been living in the KRI.

Al-Obeidi is a Sunni, was approved as the new Iraqi defense minister along with Mohammed Salem al-Ghabban, a Shia, who was appointed interior minister.

“The Kurdistan Region should hand back criminals who have been charged with terrorist acts to the federal government, so they can face justice,” said Al-Obeidi.

“The Kurdistan Region security forces and Iraqi police should arrest all those criminals, as they are threats to the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region as well Iraq,” added the new Iraqi defense minister.

Al-Obeidi also said that the names of the wanted people are with the security forces and at checkpoints.

After the capture of Mosul by Islamic State militants in early June, the former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki accused the Kurdistan Region of providing a safe haven for a number of people he called “terrorists”.

Since the attacks on some of the Sunni tribe leaders in the last two years in northern Iraq by Iraqi army, some of those Sunni leaders has fled their homes and now lives in Kurdistan region.

And this action by Kurdistan region has angered Iraqi government.

Oh I'm guessing they'll face justice at the hands of the Kurds.

Apparently the Iraqi “defense minister” is talking about Kurds, not ISIS jihadists.

The Kurds need to get some serious backing and tell Iraq to pound sand or they will help IS in overrunning Bagdad.

Almost as good as a land war in Asia, eh?

What the Iraqi army gonna do? Attack the Kurds as effectively as they attacked the ISIL without US help?

The Kurds should load all of the dead terrorists they’ve got into trucks and say “Here you are. Enjoy!”

Actually Sunni Arab tribal chiefs that the Shiite government tried to bump off. They fled to Kurdistan to escape. That’s why the Sunni Iraqi Army soldiers took a walk rather than fight ISIS.

With the capital of Iraq teetering, this is what they worry about.

Have they been talking to Obola and his crew again?

The Kurds will need more help, right now they’re getting ganged up on by ISIS, Iraq, Shiite ‘militias’, and Iran, with Syria only neglecting at best.

The GCC has been conducting bombing against ISIS in support of the Peshmerga, but it remains to be seen whether they’ll back the Kurds openly in other ways.

Thanks. The attempts to co-opt Sunni support into the Iranian puppet Shiite regime — such as naming this Sunni as defense minister — will not look too great if Baghdad falls. And that’s exactly what the Shiites are counting on.

I know a large family from the al-Obeidi family from my years in Irag. The ones I worked with were very loyal and supportive. Five older brothers were officers in the Republican Guard, who hated Saddam, but were a long time military family. I drank some whiskey, smoked argeileh and generally socialized with them after they relocated to Egypt as the shia militia were trying to kill them and family members for working with us. The Obeidi are over 1 million, a few are Shia. I talked to one in the US yesterday, who is a US citizen. His opinion is this guy is pretty weak, which explains his seemingly shia led government party line demand.

Looks like this idiot Defense Minister might first get his Iraqi army to actually fight ISIS before they start occupying parts of Baghdad, rather than harassing the Kurds, who have proven to be the only group in former Iraq with the guts to actually fight and often defeat the ISIS invaders and occupiers.
