Pat Roberts Finds No Place Like Home
Roll Call ^ | October 17, 2014 | Alexis Levinson

Dozens of cows trumpeted in the pens out back as Sen. Pat Roberts made his pitch to attendees at a livestock market.

Pat Roberts Finds No Place Like Home“When we get a Republican majority, I’ll be chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, and we are gonna put the livestock producer first,” Roberts told the crowd from a room behind the then-empty cow pen, where the auctioneer had briefly paused his chant to allow the state’s senior senator to address the crowd.

The lone man in a suit jacket in a crowd of denim, plaid, cowboy hats and baseball caps, Roberts kept it short — framing his election in the terms he used throughout his bus tour of the entire Sunflower State.

In the six campaign events Roll Call attended with Roberts last week, this was as close as he came to making the Senate race personal. Most of the time, Roberts’ pitch to voters was that the name on the ballot was all but irrelevant; it was the “R” next to it that mattered.

Roberts is the most unlikely endangered incumbent this cycle. The 34-year veteran of Congress – first in the House, then Senate – faces a stiff challenge from independent Greg Orman, a businessman running on a message of disgust for Washington, D.C. and its partisanship.

Roberts’ vulnerability has consequences beyond the borders of Kansas. It endangers the GOP’s hopes of winning the majority, which requires a net gain of six seats in November — a scenario within their grasp. But Republicans would need to find a seventh seat if Roberts were to fall.

Most people have figured out that Greg Orman is no Independent, he's a Democrat and a flaming liberal one at that. So now Kansans have to decide if they are going to vote for a conservative who should have retired, or go for the looney left who is putting on a deceitful campaign. It's not a hard decision.

A poll tomorrow will probably have him 10 behind and a poll the next day will have him 5 ahead. Sort of like the ones in Iowa, Kentucky, Arkansas, Colorado, .... They seem to be all over the place.

Buy a house here, diptick Roberts. If you don’t have to be property owner in Kansas to represent us, who is to say that the president doesn’t have to be property owner here to be president?

Bad precedent.

Buy a house here, Roberts.

I believe that Orman has a house here, although he’s from Minnesota. So, do you support Orman over Roberts?

“When we get a Republican majority, I’ll be chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, and we are gonna put the livestock producer first,”

I didn't know there were that many livestock producers in suburban DC.

It’s where their lobbyists live. They get their steaks at Wegman’s.

Well then I can understand why running the agriculture committee could be of interes to the lobbyists.

I am livid about Roberts, Orman is being sued for breach of contract in the multimillions. It is like a choice between Cheech and Chong.

Don’t you know how expensive real estate is in Dodge City? That said, I’m voting for Roberts.

I would be ok with Pat Roberts in Kansas.

However, the crook running in Mississippi, or Mitch in Kentucky who actually plays for the other side would be a different story.

A republican crook such as the MS senate candidate can be convinced to vote favorably on many conservative issues.

A DemoRat will vote 95-97% with the socialist boy king from south side of Chicago. Guaranteed.
