The topic is a child being taught in history/social studies that Smallpox was used by American colonists as a form of warfare. American colonists are being painted as “bad” to the children. So the issue of the moral narrative of textbooks and how various people groups are described in them is germane.
Apparently one of the things they liked to do to "enemies" was scalp them, then tie them upside down and dip them into a fire and watch them roast.
Funny, huh?
And they didn't reserve that torture to the EEEEVIL white man.
They did it to conquered tribespeople.
