Patrick quietly transfers 500 managers to public employee union
The Boston Glob ^ | 10/18/2014 | Michael Levenson

As he prepares to leave office, Governor Deval Patrick is quietly transferring 500 of his managers into the state public employee union, a move that will qualify them for a series of 3 percent raises and insulate them from firing when the next governor takes over.

Rolling the managers into the 22,000-member union will effectively protect them from any house-cleaning that might occur when the next governor takes office in January — a particular likelihood if Republican Charlie Baker were to take over after eight years of Democratic leadership.

Union employees generally have to be removed “for cause,” while managers serve at will.

“With just a couple of months to go in the current administration, this has the whiff of a job protection action just before the governor leaves office,”

We’ve been wondering that for years. And corruption pervades government, Sad but true. Many in government are the Polly Pissypant types who get their jollies using political power to boss people around. Those types, like some of the ones whose life ambition is to be a cop are best detected early and kept away from those endeavors. Far away. And the thugs and power fanatics who grin and gladhand their way in, once detected must be removed, posthaste, for the peace of all.

This is how government takes total control..

Make as many as possible dependent on them.

Control everything.

Eventually ya turn them into a sniveling beggar class of zombies who’ve turned over everything to the ruling class for a hand full of beans. We now have entire cities of them.

Any bet the unions exert more control over government than we, the people? I’d like to hear Congress explain away that theory. Hoo, boy!

... deemed close enough for government work.

This currently derogatory term comes from World War II, when something was "good enough for Government work", it meant it could pass the most rigorous of standards. It was a mark of pride. It's a prime example of how far we have fallen in the USA in 70 short years.

I heard it 40+ years ago, applied to things that were done just well enough to get by.

Simple fact is the state legislature can pass a budget that slashes these jobs... but they won’t.

As a manager the last thing I want is to have more union membership because of the reasons we are all aware of.

But if the governor did this there is more to it than just shifting them like the article implies. Managers cannot be in the same bargaining unit as, the rank and file which means they would have to go through a process of creating a new unit, getting that approved, identifying the new members and their jib descriptions, then the members would have to ratify an agreement, and so on and so forth.

In other words this is done by more than a stroke of a pen.

Do we really need MORE government? When is enough enough?

If you've ever seen the animated movie "Raggedy Ann And Andy," there's a character called "The Greedy", who can never get enough. One look at him and you are reminded of our insatiable government.

You can see The Greedy in this YouTube

Yes, it was still a prideful term through the early 70s during the first years of the Space Program but it faded fast after the moon landing.

Managers cannot be in the same bargaining unit as, the rank and file

That may be but even so the different units will still be part of the same whole and devoted to the same ends: higher wages, benefits and retirement income at the expense of the taxpayer, and the furtherance of Democrat party elected officials.

Why are so many levels, of corrupt government unionized, from the local, state and fed levels?

To supply Democrats with campaign contributions. It’s quite simple. I’m surprised you didn’t see it right away.

;)

I am trying to change this system in my County. I loathe the government union system...It is one of the reasons we are in the mess we are in.

500 new union members x $90+ a month in union dues = $540,000 per year to be used by the DNC.

"...People here bitch about unions, until ya tell um there are now more unionized corrupt government employees at all levels..."

Until you tell em? LOL...doesn't THAT make the top of their heads pop off instead of making em shut up?

This place and every place is loaded with those on the government payroll. You didn’t know this?

BTW, if that makes um shut up, or causes them to blow a head gasket, too bad.
