Obama: US can’t cut itself off from West Africa
President Barack Obama urged Americans on Saturday not to succumb to hysteria about Ebola, even as he warned that addressing the deadly virus would require citizens, government leaders and the media to all pitch in.
In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama also pushed back against calls for the U.S. to institute a travel ban. Lawmakers have called it a common-sense step to prevent more people with Ebola from entering the U.S., but Obama said such a ban would only hamper aid efforts and screening measures.
“Trying to seal off an entire region of the world – if that were even possible – could actually make the situation worse,” Obama said....

US airlines suspended flights to and from Hong Kong because SARS -- and there were probably thousands of visitors from Hong Kong every day.

What we want is to STOP DISEASE RIDDEN AFRICAN EBOLA CARRIERS FROM COMING TO THE UNITED STATES.

Housing a person who is symptom free 20 days into the quarantine period with a Newbie (just arrived, 1 days into quarantine) in one big "facility" or housing unit would not be smart.
No one is asking - or answering - these questions.

Maybe it works, maybe not. But it’s not expensive and if it doesn’t work you won’t need the money anyway...
And he knows it. Which makes me wonder whose pulling his strings. Who would benefit from bringing Ebola to the USA? And other countries?
Conservatives are pretty much defanged and the government watches them closely. They don't have un-monitored sanctuaries to get steamed up in and to, well, plot. In this, they are unlike Moslems, who have their mosques, or large gangs, which have structure and discipline and are difficult to infiltrate.
The average conservative can't do much more than bitch to his neighbors and vent on the internet. Militias are repressed.
Until things get so bad in what were middle class communities that masses of formerly cooperative people feel they have little to lose, nothing will happen that isn't the product of a lone-wolf.
Commercial airlines do not need to be banned from west africa, only those who hold passports from any other country except the US coming from that region would be banned from boarding the planes to America. Aid efforts may be able to use the commercial airlines which would help maintain a revenue for the loss of passengers due to the ban.
This claim that they may go underground and lie if we have a travel ban is nonsense because if they are going to lie to get into the United States they should be banned anyway whether they're from west africa, europe or canada.
Sure, sounds good. Also, rubbing magic chicken bones together while chanting wards off the toxic Ebola miasmas.

If he is correct and the plague dwindles into nothing he is a genius. If he is wrong and tens of thousands die he is a murderer. Why would he take this risk? Unless, of course, he is absolutely correct and we can stop it. Or he is a demagogic terrorist and the country is devastated.

I should also add that those with American passports trying to fly back to the United States need to be quarantined at least 21 days before being allowed to travel back home.
That’s the way it should be.
Mexico had no problem banning the American cruise ship this weekend. Good for them!
