Obama voters: The thrill is gone
Chicago Tribune ^ | October 17, 2014 | by Clarence Page

As President Barack Obama heads into the final half of his final term, many of us Americans wonder: Whatever happened to the fresh promise of that cheerfully charismatic optimist who dominated the political stage back in 2008?

Some of those who voted for him now say they're sorry they did.

Why is the thrill gone? I can think of three big reasons:

1. Public impatience. After six years in office, any president has been seen and heard too many times to satisfy the public's relentless appetite for something fresh and new.

2. An anti-incumbent reflex in news media. The most powerful media bias, I often have argued, is our bias against any political narrative that sounds like old news.

3. Obama's own distaste for the politicking that is an inevitable and, in many ways, an essential part of presidential leadership.

Gary Younge, at Britain's liberal The Guardian, observed that Obama's campaign slogan, "Yes we can," seems to have become "At least he tried."

The next two years offer him a big opportunity to try harder.

The thrill may be gone, but for the most part, they’ll pull the lever for the next Dem candidate, be it Hillary, Lizzie Warran, or Julian Castro.

They’re a bit like Muslims that way. There’s little thinking outside of the group.

I speak from my limited and unavoidable acquaintance with some loyal Dems on the in-law side.

It was an illusion. The devil spun a tale to get elected all the while planning to unleash a new brand of tyranny directed by his base.

How ‘bout the embarrassment of waking up in a hopium hangover and realizing who's sleeping on top of your arm? Now, do you wake him or chew your arm off?

Bullshit! And, if so, which I don’t believe for a minute, who gives a shit, the damage they inflicted is already done. The principle is the same as putting a gun to someone’s head and pulling the trigger and as the hammer is falling to the firing pin, start screaming and wailing. “I’m sorry, I’M sorry”. Well, it does not matter, at that point the damage is already done. All the sorries in the world won’t b\ring the bullet back. Every sob that voted for Obama knew what a bastard he was and they knew why they were voting for him. and now that they did not get their perceived freebie, they are weeping and wailing. Hell with them!!

Clarence page sure doesnt get it.

“Yet as a fair historical accounting will show, Obama did get things done. He reversed the recession with a stimulus that injected billions into the economy. Recovery has been sluggish and low-wage workers have not benefited as much as upper-income earners. But unemployment is down, and so is the deficit; the stock market, for all of its bounces, has hit record highs”

Reversed the recession? The stimulus injected billions into the economy?

Clarence Page is laughable. He really does NOT blame Obama for being a failure.

Blaming the public and media are the primary reasons for Obama being unpopular....and then Page spews this crap:

“Obama’s own distaste for the politicking.....” as a reason for his disastrous time in power.

Excuse me? A “distaste”? The ONLY THING OBAMA DOES (when not golfing or fundraising) is politicize.

This is another excuse piece. No wonder print media is dead.

Page’s piece in a nutshell:
1. It’s our fault. We aren’t worthy of the President. If we were, we would be patient.
2. We are capricious and callow, acting based on “reflex” rather than reason.
3. The President is too principled to do what it takes repair the damage.

Reversed the recession in his bank accounts. He calls his back pocket "the economy."

Anyone who voted for Obama in 2008 deserves ridicule.
Anyone who voted for Obama in 2012 deserves contempt.
