Unless it’s a SHTF Apocalypse, and all my food & water stores (14mos) are gone, I’ll pass on squirrel. Lotta work for not much eating.

Not sure I’d like roadrunner, even if it was Acme brand.

My paw-in-law’s best story was what he called “the winter of the sweet potatoes”...
It was ALL they had to eat for several months one year in the 1930’s.
He talked about it, laughingly, they had plenty to eat...
baked sweet potatoes...
sliced sweet potatoes...
fried sweet potatoes...
mashed sweet potatoes...
sweet potato pie...
breakfast lunch, and dinner every day...
...nothing but sweet potatoes, because that was all they had.

Birds carry a LOT of diseases and unless they’re well-cleaned and cooked, a human can get VERY sick.

Agreed 100%. I’ve headshot cows, steers, gutted, field-dressed and processed and cooked the meat, but haven’t done birds, squirrels, coons, woodchucks etc. If I was starving, I wouldn’t hesitate.

I’m partial to *bark/grass sandwiches*; Mags can make the mudpies for the picnic.

I’d have to draw the line at cannibalism. Don’t ask what I’d do instead with my last bullet.

“... Birds carry a LOT of diseases ...”
-
I think EVERY animal in the wild has that same potential.
Our modern, monitored herds and flocks at least minimize those risks.
Wild boar, deer, geese, etc. are all associated with a level of risk

May GOD forbid that you and I will ever have to know what we would do in that situation.

Tort reform and doing something about our litigous society could help with this too, Mark!
