Why a travel ban wouldn’t work
Politico ^ | Oct 16th, 2014 | By HEATHER CAYGLE and KATHRYN A. WOLFE

Posted on 10/16/2014 7:56:07 PM PDT by Mariner

he political momentum for a travel ban on West African nations continued to swell Thursday, but health and transportation experts were uniform in saying it wouldn’t stem the spread of Ebola — and could do more harm than good.

That hasn’t stopped politicians and pundits — ranging from House Speaker John Boehner to former Obama press secretary Jay Carney — from calling for a travel ban. The appeal is obvious: It sounds like a no-brainer to build an infectious-disease moat around the U.S., blocking some flights and barring people who come from the countries suffering the worst Ebola outbreaks.

But the reality, the experts say, is that those kinds of measures have failed before. And this time, experts inside and outside the administration warned, throttling travel would hammer already devastated West African countries, make it difficult to send relief where it’s needed, and send an unknown number of infected travelers into the shadows, increasing the difficulty of knowing how many were entering the U.S.

The leftist Politico’s Heather and Kathy must be “experts” at something. I doubt that it’s controlling the deadly Ebola virus.

“those kinds of measures have failed before.”

Yes.

It’s failing in countries RIGHT NEXT TO those suffering massive outbreaks.

What a bunch of horse!#@$@!%

When the hell are we going to give a crud about OUR country and OUR people and stop this Goddamn PC crap worrying about hurting NON-American widdle feelings?

BINGO! My wife had to get a shot for a migraine tonight. Unfortunately because I was attending a conference, I didn’t get home in time to see our doctor. Hello urgent care and all the “exotic” types there. All the tweakers and under the bridge dwellers were freaking out (because of drug induced paranoia) about ebola.

When my wife went in for the shot she mentioned the people freaking out and the nurse and doctor went off about how “Nobody is taking charge, they’re all just standing around watching!” I think a lot of health care workers have had their eyes opened between obamacare and this recent ebola outbreak.

If true, which I seriously doubt, they are uniformly stupid.

Nice graphic.

Obama in the sitdown speech he gave today said that a travel ban wouldn’t work because travelers would break up travel and come in from other places.

Don’t they have passports to enter the U.S.?

It’s idiotic PC flim flam.

They WANT Ebola here to create yet another crisis they can take advantage of.

It’s backfiring though politically as EVERYONE knows all of these U.S. cases are Obama’s fault.

Why travel ban wouldn’t work...

Well have they tried the speed stick?

Or perhaps they could use the roll on.

Perhaps they should simply use some Right Guard spray deodorant.

I drove my husband to urgent care for an ingrown toenail.

The parking lot was almost empty.

The place is usually really busy

Their argumemt makes no sense. If someone sneaks across a border in Africa and tries to use his home country passport to board an airplane, wouldn’t we see his home country on his passport? If he gets to another country and flys to Belgium wouldn’t we see his home country when he tried to board? Can someone explain to me how someone could sneak across a border in Africa and then sneak onto a commercial airplane? I guess he could buy a fake passport but how many people would be able to that in 8 to 10 days without a fever? Not very many. I am sure our custom folks would be able to see thru most of them anyway.

At this point, I really don't care about the economies of West Africa and the government doesn't need commercial airliners to get to Africa to help them. And how would the Africans get here anyway? Swim the Atlantic?

Based on Drudge headline, looks like all the countries around the ebola countries have closed their borders. Now, if you have been exposed, the easiest way to get to a doctor is to come to America. No problem as long as you do it before symptoms set in.

The only way a travel ban does not work is ObOla does not get enough victims in this country to declare marshal law.
