Second Strain of Ebola Identified in The Congo: Mortality Rate at 71 Percent
Breitbart London ^ | 10-16-2014 | Oliver Lane

The world may be facing two deadly Ebola outbreaks, now a new strain of the virus has been discovered in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), which so far has killed 71 percent of those infected.

The virus in the DRC, which is nearly 2,300 miles away from the most eastern extent of the much larger West-African outbreak has been studied by a joint French-Canadian team of virologists for the World Health Organisation who confirmed that it was distinct, sharing only 96.8 percent of genetic material: “The complete genome sequence of the virus responsible… confirms that it is a virus Ebola species but it shows that the Congolese strain is different from Africa West”.

The first cases in the new outbreak were recorded in August, and unlike the West-African disease the Centre for Disease Control records a ‘patient-zero’, a pregnant woman who slaughtered and prepared bush meat. Due to “local customs” observed after her death, several more became infected by her body and 46 have now died in the region.

This is a very likely explanation of the different mortality rates observed.

Instead of the West Africa strain mutated between human transmission (into a more lethal strain), we now have evidence that there were two separate outbreaks and two different strains of Ebola viruses.

Looks like the determined practice of local burial customs is going to be a self-solving problem before too long. Carry on, stubborn, Godless ones.

Necrophilia? That would be about right for these stone age societies in the “cradle of civilization”.

Awesome!

Hopefully the Center for Disease Communication can import it here ASAP so that the world will be balanced and fair and everyone will have a equal shot at liquefying ;/

This isn’t news — the DRC outbreak has been widely reported for three months now.

The woman who was taken to USA Med Center in Mobile was from the Congo. She hadn’t been to Africa in a while, but her family members had. Can they be carriers and not have symptoms? They sent her away. I didn’t think she should have ever been sent there though.

Pinging Captain Trips

I've been thinking about The Stand lately. Just as I have been thinking of the last scene in the recent updating of Planet of the Apes. An airline pilot who was sneezed on by an infected person gets on his plane. He becomes a dot on a map which connects to other dots, etc., etc. It is a very simple, but effective, way of showing how a virus can travel quickly among the populace.

This new strain of Ebola virus brings the count up to at least five different strains of Ebola:

Ebola (also called Zaire Ebola)
Sudan
Taï Forest (one infection; no fatalities)
Bundibugyo
Reston

The first four are African, but Reston Ebola is found in the Philippines and Indonesia.

Given a choice, you don't want Zaire or Sudan.
