In the moments after the Royals won the pennant, after their 2-1 victory carried them to a sweep over the Orioles in the American League Championship Series, joy flowed like the fountains beyond this ballparks outfield fences.
The last embers of afternoon sunshine still illuminated Kauffman Stadium. The voices of 40,468 revelers merged with a fireworks display. Greg Holland jumped into the arms of catcher Salvador Perez. Lorenzo Cain flung his glove skyward and skipped like a child. In the center of the diamond stood the Kansas City Royals, conquerors of the American League, ready to contend for their first World Series title since 1985.

My Giants will destroy that fly by night operation!!
The real ALCS was the sudden-death game vs. the A’s. They were the best two teams in the AL right now.
Glad to see an old school offense win! But, with all those draft choices from their years of futility, they should’ve done it a few years ago.
I managed to score a couple of tickets for the Wildcard game, the best game since 1956 according to many experts. The prices since then have been out of reach, so TV is the best I could do.
This is a wonderful metaphor for flyover country, a small market team, and the hope for America. I hope that the gloom and doomers get over it.
I’d love to see the Cards and Royals.
I have recorded the game and intended to watch it when I got home. LOL!
Go, G-Men!!!
Just like 1985, the Missouri Series.
I’d like to see a Royals - Giants World Series just to humiliate another major market blowhard team.
Congrats to them, Cardinals have their work cut out for themselves.
I was fortunate to attend that game. It was the greatest game that I ever saw. Got my tickets two hours before first pitch. Sometimes you get lucky.
KC is such a great fan town, I hope they go all the way.
We in KC land say ‘MOLON LABE’!
Ouch! Sorry to be a spoiler.
I enjoyed watching my wife during that game. She’s a die hard Royals fan (grew up north of Kansas City) and she was all over the map emotionally during that A’s game. Me & the kids watched in shock as she’s the stoic/cool one in the family :o). She’s taken a lot of teasing from people, the past 3 decades, whenever she’s worn her Royals gear. She and all die hard Royals fans deserve a good time...
KC & the Sunshine band
The I-70 series and I’m a royals fan !
Ditto! We have Vogey on the mound tonight!
RE: Your screen name - I was just thinking about him this morning! It’s been a long time since that show was on...
Now I'd like to see an all Missouri World Series.
